Background
EIR (Εθνικό Ίδρυμα Ραδιοφωνίας) was the main public state broadcaster for the Kingdom of Greece from 1945, and started offering television services on February 23, 1966, as the successor of the occupation-era Hellenic Radio Limited Company. In 1970, the station was renamed EIRT.
