Discovery Kids Originals (Latin America & Brazil)

From the Audiovisual Identity Database, the motion graphics museum

Not to be confused with Discovery Family Originals, which was formerly called Discovery Kids Originals in the USA.

1st Logo (April 4, 2005-March 29, 2009 (except Fishtronaut); April 20, 2009-2011 (on Fishtronaut))

Visuals: The 2000s Discovery Kids Latin America logo is seen (in-credit) located in any position of the screen. Next to it is the text "Produced in Association with Discovery Kids Latin America" and the other in-credit logos are seen at the bottom. Most of the time, this is all superimposed on a white background.

Variants:

  • On earlier episodes of Pinky Dinky Doo, the text is seen with "Produced in Association with" in a different font. However, on international prints, the logo is below the other credits/logos instead of on top.
  • On season 1 episodes of Fishtronaut, the logo is seen with "In association with" (in the Trebuchet MS font) beneath. Also, the logo slowly zooms in and then it cuts to black for a split-second (right before the start either of the intro of a show following Fishtronaut or of just the intro of Fishtronaut).

Technique: A still graphic.

Audio: The end theme.

Availability: Seen on Pinky Dinky Doo (some prints such as HBO edit this logo out), Harry and his Bucketful of Dinosaurs, among other shows co-produced with the network until 2009. It makes a surprise appearance on season 1 episodes of Fishtronaut.

2nd Logo (March 30, 2009-2013)

Visuals: On a sky background, there's the 2009 Discovery Kids logo: a blue planet with yellow continents and a "K" with a ring. The "K" jumps and the planet transforms into a yellow sphere containing a yellow "D" inside. The words "discovery kids" are formed and the "i" is turned upside down, making a exclamation mark.

Trivia: The animation is done by Steinbranding.

Variant: A still version exists, showing just the finished product. Examples of variants using the still version are:

  • On the Latin American version of Artzooka, the logo is at the top of the screen and the CCI and Motionworks logos are at the bottom of the screen (with the CCI logo at the left and the Motionworks logo at the right). This is all superimposed on the same white background from before.
  • On Veloz Mente, the logo is superimposed over the background of the closing credits of the show, preceding the NUBA Productions logo.

Other Variant: There's another version where the background is black, and the words "discovery kids" are formed in a slightly more downwards tilting position.

Technique: A still graphic. Computer animation for the animated versions.

Audio: Same as before.

Availability:

  • The still version is seen on shows co-produced with the network from March 30, 2009 until April 14, 2013; examples are Veloz Mente and the Latin American version of Artzooka.
  • The animated version appears at the end of all of Discovery Kids' media from the time; examples include the first ID with the 2009 logo (the change from the 2005 logo to the 2009 logo).
    • The other animated version was seen on the first episode of the first season of Doki (Latin American prints of the episode plaster the animated version with the sky version from the next logo) and at the end of later shorts from the time such as Hora y minuto, Las notas musicales, among others.

3rd Logo (2013-2016)

Visuals: The screen zooms out of a land containing trees, ponds, rivers and canyons with large inclines scattered all over. This reveals itself as the "D" in the logo. While zooming, the green inside of the K zooms in to fit and the ring around it. Then the name on the bottom forms and the I flips over to become an exclamation mark. The end result is the same as the last logo, except it has been given a three-dimensional effect.

Variant: On Doki (starting with episode 8), the logo is animated on a sky background.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: Same as the previous 2 logos.

Availability: Seen on Doki, starting with the 2nd episode of season 1 (the original variant used only up until episode 7; howeverm Latin American prints plaster this with the sky version of this logo). Despite having the next logo launched in 2016, the show used this for all its run.

4th Logo (2017-2021)

Visuals: There is a "D" zooming out forming the "DK" logo on a blue background.

Technique: Camera-controlled animation.

Audio: Same as the previous 3 logos.

Availability: The logo debuted on the Netflix original series Ponysitters Club and can be seen on season 1 of Agent Binky: Pets Of The Universe and The Dog and Pony Show. The in-credit logo can be seen on Mini Beat Power Rockers, and Big Top Academy. The logo made its last appearance on Mundo Curiozoo with the launch of Discovery+ in Brazil.

5th Logo (2021-)

Visuals: On a white background, there is the "D" roll over to the "K" forming the "DK" logo.

Variant: A variant, animating on the network's background of the period (used on the network's branding and the A continuación bumpers), exists.

Technique: CGI animation.

Audio: Same as the previous 4 logos.

Availability: It debuted on Ba Da Bean with the launch of Discovery+ in Brazil. The in-credit version debuted on Underdogs United and also on season 2 of Agent Binky: Pets of The Universe and would continue to be used on upcoming shows. The variant is expected to be used on the aforementioned upcoming shows.
