Background

QED International is an independent film production, financing, and international distribution company founded in 2002 by Bill Block. The company's name stands for "Quod Erat Demonstrandum" ("which was to be demonstrated"), a Latin phrase typically placed at the end of mathematical proofs. The filled square in their logo is a symbol for the phrase.

1st Logo (September 7, 2007-April 11, 2008)

Visuals: On a grainy brown surface is a mirrored image of a mathematical theorem. On the other side of the board is a hand finishing the equation, then drawing a square below. The hand pokes the square with its pen, turning it red as the background fades to black. Above the square is the stacked name "QED INTERNATIONAL".

Technique: Live-action and 2D computer animation.

Audio: A calm synth string theme.

Availability: Can be found on The Hunting Party and Smart People.

2nd Logo (September 26, 2008-)

Visuals: On a black background, a golden burst of light forms, causing various mathematical symbols to fly towards the camera. The symbols briefly hover in place before being sucked back into the light, which dies down to reveal the square from the previous logo, now in gold. The name rises from the square to its usual place, but with "QED" in 3D and shining.

Technique: CGI by yU+co.

Audio: In order: an explosion, whooshes, a shining sound, more whooshes, and a low rumble.

Availability: Seen on such films as The Lucky Ones, District 9, and The Echo, among others. This doesn't appear on Dirty Grandpa.
