Background

Comedy Central Films was the motion picture production arm of the adult-oriented comedy television cable channel Comedy Central, founded in 1995. The studio produces comedy films aimed at a mature audience and based on Comedy Central shows. Many of which were distributed by Paramount Pictures.

1st Logo (June 30, 1999)

Visuals: Just the 1997 Comedy Central logo in red and orange on a black background.

Technique: A still digital graphic.

Audio: The ending theme of the movie.

Availability: Seen only at the end of South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut.

2nd Logo (February 23, 2007-April 20, 2010)

Visuals: Two versions exist:

  • Reno 911! Miami: On a pale yellow metal wall background with a white starburst, a black-outlined version of the 2000 Comedy Central logo rams into the screen. It partially spins around, grows a red banner behind, and then zooms back. Ink splats, stars and clouds are seen. The logo vibrates very slowly, and zooms in and out to the rhythm of the music.
  • The Drawn Together Movie: The Movie!: On a red background, we first see a yellow silhouette of the Comedy Central logo. Then, there are the words "COMEDY CENTRAL" with a yellow trail behind it, zooming out. Everything then zooms out, and then there is the Comedy Central logo, in black, with black wings behind it. "COMEDY CENTRAL", in yellow, is seen. The camera constantly turns around throughout the logo.

Technique: 2D digital animation by INTERspectacular.

Audio: A DJ Shadow-esque hip hop beat (the drums are sampled from "Get Out of My Life, Woman" by Lee Dorsey for the Reno 911! variant).

Availability: Seen on Reno 911!: Miami and The Drawn Together Movie: The Movie!. The variant used for the latter film can also be seen at the start of some digital prints of Comedy Central shows around the time.

3rd Logo (December 9, 2010)

Visuals: Over a black background, the logo starts with the 2000 Comedy Central logo in blue. It slowly pans around, shines and fades out.

Trivia: This logo is based on the "Enjoy Daily" branding, used on some international versions of Comedy Central between 2010 and 2011.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: The opening theme of the film; usually the sounds of birds chirping and cows mooing.

Availability: Seen only on the Dutch film New Kids Turbo.

4th Logo (December 8, 2011)

Visuals: Over a black background, the logo starts with the 2010 Comedy Central logo in white zoom in and shine. Then it flashes to negative and vanishes.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: The opening theme of the film (which is "Dreams (Will Come Alive)" by 2 Brothers on the 4th Floor).

Availability: Appears only on New Kids Nitro.
