Background

Pirates World was a theme park in Dania, Florida (now Dania Beach) that first opened in 1967. A few low-budget children's films were filmed here, which were often screened as weekend matinees at mall theaters. Sales slowed in 1971 when Walt Disney World first opened up, followed by bankruptcy in 1973, until finally shutting down in 1975. A biblical theme park was planned in 1978, but that fell through. Condominiums have since been built over the land.
