Background

Likely Story is an independent film production company founded by Anthony Bregman and Stefanie Azpiazu in October 2006. It is based in New York City with an office in Los Angeles. The company did not use a logo until January 2008.

Bad Panda (January 19, 2008-)

Visuals: A timestamp counts down from 5 to 2. A panda bear is revealed, removing the timestamp. The panda bear is seen inside a circle against a white background. He wears a tag that says "Bad Panda" in a font that looks like Impact. He growls and then he stops moving. There is black inside the circle with white edges surrounding it. Underneath the circle are the words "likely story" in a Futura font.

Trivia: The name was derived from a "likely story". The backstory and context behind what is happening in the logo is written on their website here: the panda walked into a bar and shot up the place with his gun after eating and before leaving, only for the bartender to read in a book that a panda "eats shoots and leaves".

Variant: In Eileen, a 1960s-style custom logo was used, to hence the film setting. This time, a live-action panda sitting on the circle and eating bamboo, similar to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer logo.

Technique: Grainy 2D computer animation.

Audio: The sound of the timer counting down, followed by two bear growls and (if you listen closely) a low airy synth note.

Availability: Seen on films from this company such as Sleep Dealer, Carriers, Please Give, Things Heard & Seen, among others.
