Background

Blackhawk Films was founded in 1927 in Davenport, Iowa. From the 1950s through the early 1980s, marketed motion pictures on 16mm, 8mm and Super 8 film. Most were vintage one or two-reel short subjects, usually comedies starring Laurel and Hardy, Our Gang, Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, and other famous comedy series of the past.

1st Logo (1950s?-1970s)

Visuals: On a black background, there is a person with a feather on the back of their head all in white enclosed in a white circle. There is also "Blackhawk Films" in cursive, with a registered symbol above the "m" and "s", to the right of the head. There is a white line underneath the logo and under the line is the text "THE EASTIN- PHELAN CORPORATION". And finally, below that is the location of the company, "DAVENPORT, IOWA 52808".

Technique: A printed image made using traditional ink and paint.

Audio: None, or the closing theme of the film.

Audio: Either none or the opening theme of the program.

Availability: It was seen on programs like Lew Lehr’s Newsettes and Rabbit Stew.


3rd Logo (1950's-1960's)

Visuals: Just the big, cursive text "The End" and the logo, which is the man along with the company name, on the bottom right, on a black background.

Technique: A printed image made using traditional ink and paint.

Audio: None or the closing theme of the film.
