TSG Entertainment

(October 5, 2013-)

Nicknames: "Odysseus", "The Archer"

Logo: On a black background (possibly a room), a gold colored man (Odysseus), picks up a bow and arrow and shoots it through 12 golden axe heads. The view pulls back to show the words "TSG ENTERTAINMENT" on the side and the logo inside a gold rectangle.

Trivia: The logo makes reference to the challenge proposed by Penelope: she went to the suitors and told them that whoever could string Odysseus's bow and shoot an arrow through 12 axe-handles would marry her. The man uses its bow and shoots the arrow through the axes, so he could marry her.

Variants:

  • On The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (the first film to use this logo), the logo looks more golden.
  • On Logan: Noir Edition and The Greatest Showman, the logo is in black and white. On the latter, the logo is zoomed-in, plays at warp speed and is brighter.
  • A still version of this logo exists.

FX/SFX: The man shooting the arrow and the zoom-out. Nice CGI animation.

Music/Sounds: A triumphant sounding fanfare with drums and horns, and the sound of an arrow. Sometimes it's just the arrow sound or the opening theme of the movie, or both.

Availability: Current and common.

  • Seen on most films from the company, such as The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, The Greatest Showman, Lucy in the Sky, Jojo Rabbit, Underwater, The Call of the Wild (2020), Downhill, and Ron's Gone Wrong, among others.
  • Some films like Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip and Free Guy don't have this logo, just an end credits notice saying "Made in association with TSG Entertainment".

Editor's Note: A nicely animated logo for the period.

TSG Entertainment II

Background

TSG Entertainment II was founded in 2022 to finance non-20th Century/Searchlight films such as with Where the Crawdads Sing, The Woman King, Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile and Garfield (2024), all released by Sony Pictures Releasing under Columbia Pictures for the first, third and fourth titles and TriStar Pictures for the second title, respectively.

(September 9, 2022-)

Logo: On a black background, we see the "TSG" text from the TSG Entertainment logo now appearing in silver fading in on the left. Then, a vertical line draws down next to it, with another text "ENTERTAINMENT II" in a Bebas Neue-esque font fading in to the right.

FX/SFX: The fading and line drawing. Simple animation.

Music/Sounds: So far, the opening theme of the film is heard.

Availability: Brand new. The logo debuted on The Woman King and was later seen on Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile.
