Background

JVC Musical Industries, Inc. was a media publishing subsidiary of JVC. Initially they operated in North America having several joint ventures with LucasArts. Since 1996, their focus was shifted to the European video game market by distributing Japanese titles from Victor Entertainment.



1st Logo (Still variants) (January 18, 1993-October 21, 2002)

Visuals: Just the JVC logo (mostly in red or white) on a black background.

Variants:

  • On the Sega CD release of Wolfchild, the Sega of America byline is shown below the logo.
  • On the Sega CD release of Jaguar XJ220, the logo appears glowing in orange with the Sega of America byline seen below it.
  • On the North American release of Keio Flying Squadron, the white logo appears flipping in, then ripples away.
  • On AH-3 Thunderstrike and Impact Racing, the logo is superimposed on the intro sequence.

Technique: A still digital graphic.

Audio: None.

Availability: The normal logo appears on Syvalion and Timecop both for the SNES, and Wolfchild for the Genesis. The white logo is shown on Saturn and PlayStation games.

2nd Logo (October 1994-November 1995)

Visuals: On a black background, a red rectangle is shown with the white JVC logo and "JVC Musical Industries, Inc." below.

Variants:

  • On Big Sky Trooper and Emmitt Smith Football, the rectangle is white, the logo is red and the text is black. The copyright info is shown below on the latter.
  • On the Sega CD releases of Fatal Fury Special and Samurai Shodown, it is shown alongside the Funcom logo. The intro petal sequence from Samurai Shodown also applies to both.

Technique: A still digital graphic.

Audio: None.

Audio Variant: On Big Sky Trooper, a chime is heard.

Availability: Seen on five games, Indiana Jones' Greatest Adventures, Big Sky Trooper and Emmitt Smith Football for the SNES, and Samurai Shodown and Fatal Fury Special for the Sega CD.

3rd Logo (December 1996-November 30, 2001)

Visuals: On a black background, a white trail of the JVC logo emerges. The trailing logo rotates to the center as it merges. The letters spin, then the logo turns into plain white as its revealed.

Technique: 3D CGI.

Audio: A descending piano theme with the last note appearing after a few seconds.

Availability: Seen on PS1 titles distributed by JVC across Europe, including Victory Boxing: Champion Edition, Victory Boxing Challenger, Contender, YoYo's Puzzle Park, Psychic Force 2, Submarine Commander and Burstrick: Wake Boarding!!.

4th Logo (Polaroid Pete custom variant) (2002)


Visuals: There's a light that moves from left to right and vice-versa, revealing the JVC logo. Once the light goes to the center, it dies and the logo becomes white.

Technique: Light effects.

Audio: Two synth choir notes and a deep boom.

Availability: Seen on the unreleased game Polaroid Pete (English version of Gekibo: Gekisha Boy 2) for PS2.
