Currently, our Image Guidelines prohibit potato captures of any kind on the wiki. Recently, though, I feel a good point regarding the problems this total ban on such captures can pose was brought up by Logohub on the Discord, which is that some captures of rare or otherwise obscure logos, such as logos from filmstrips, old smartphones or pachinko machines, currently only exist in the "potato capture" form due to being incredibly rare and/or a lack of proper technology or techniques to capture such logos in a higher quality, and because of this ban, this means they currently cannot be uploaded or properly documented on the wiki, which poses a problem since this wiki’s main goal is to thoroughly document logos.
This RfC, if passed, would make exemptions for potato captures for such logos until higher-quality captures for them can be uploaded. Additionally, any previously-deleted potato captures of any rare or otherwise obscure logos would additionally be restored for use on their respective pages until higher-quality captures can be provided if possible, and any warnings or blocks that were previously given over deleted potato captures of such logos being uploaded would additionally be forgiven. Here is what the modified guideline could look like if this RfC is passed:
“Potato Captures”
Images on pages should be direct screen captures of the logo if possible. We generally do not accept captures obtained by pointing a camera at a screen (known as “potato captures”), but in cases where a logo may be unable to be cleanly captured, such as being of exceeding rarity or existing in a medium that makes obtaining clear captures difficult or outright impossible (e.g. bootscreens of very old smartphones, pachinko or slot machines, filmstrips etc.), we may allow certain exceptions to this rule until higher-quality captures of the logo are able to be obtained.

- Support. This amendment will work wonders as there's quite a few logos that are nigh impossible to capture perfectly. Dominicmgm (talk) 17:06, 7 December 2022 (UTC)
- Support I say its a good idea for certain exceptions to be passed. IAmThe789Guy (talk) 17:21, 7 December 2022 (UTC) IAmThe789Guy

- Support, but make sure this fits the current rule format, not the older one. Compooper 17:38, 7 December 2022 (UTC)

- Support I agree with this - but perhaps implement a "Logos requiring High Quality Captures" section alongside this to aid logo hunters in sourcing HQ captures? I would also like to see this cover video captures, too. Luke2505 (talk) 01:49, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
