Background

Maverick Entertainment Group is a film distribution company formed by Douglas Schwab in 1997 and based in Deerfield Beach, Florida. Maverick focuses on low budget niche content, namely urban and LGBT movies and had also been open for indie submissions.

1st Logo (1997-)

Logo: We see a horse running against a mountainous terrain at night, with flames at its feet. Starting at a forty degree perspective, the camera turns to the horse's side and then the horse turns chrome as it shrinks and the background turns black. The word "MAVERICK" with flames surrounding it zooms back as a spark appears and draws in an oval, encasing the horse as the inside of it turns purple and the horse becomes an illustration (textures referencing the ground appears below it) "ENTERTAINMENT GROUP" also appears below.

Variant(s):

  • Earlier on, the logo was mostly the same, but this time only the "MAVERICK" text appears in yellow, the background turns blue and the horse turns yellow at the last minute.
  • A print version exists, similar to the main logo but the text and horse illustration is blue.

FX/SFX: The horse running, done in cheap 3D animation, though this is expected from a low-budget company.

Music/Sounds: A pounding tribal tune, ending with a clear synth note and three muffled notes.

Availability: Can be seen on a number of low budget independent films. A majority of Maverick's titles were co-distributed by York Entertainment in the late-90s/early 2000s. Maverick maintains a YouTube channel and website, so it's easy to find this logo on their films.
