Background

The MEDIA sub-programme of Creative Europe or simply Creative Europe MEDIA (formerly known as the MEDIA Programme of the European Union) is an extensive media funding program organized by the European Union. Established in 1990 with headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, the program is designed to support the European film, TV and audiovisual industries, providing assets for the development, promotion, and distribution of European related (or based) works within Europe and beyond. Originally owned directly by the EU, it was transferred in late 2013 under Creative Europe, another EU programme for the cultural and creative sectors.

Logo (May 12, 1991-)

Visuals: Superimposed in the credits of the TV show or film is the still MEDIA logo and the EU flag next to it. Below the logo is "A programme of the European Union" in Rotis Semi Sans in either white, black or blue, while "MEDIA" is in a rainbow color and ribbed with white line marks. Sometimes, the company's URL can be seen below both of them in a smaller size.

Trivia: The print version of the logo itself was made with rainbow colors to represent the CE branding, and not the European flag on the right side of the logo.

Variants:

  • On some programs (especially season 1 of both Dive Olly Dive! and Chloe's Closet, both produced by Splash Entertainment), the logo would share its' screen with other logos on either a black or white background. For example, in Season 1 of the former program, the logo is on the bottom right, alongside the 2005-2008 Ki.KA logo (which is on the top right), the 2006-2011 Telegael logo (which is on the top left), the 2006-2009 Taffy Entertainment logo (albeit as a variant, which is in the center), and the 2006-2010 GDC Holdings logo (which is on the bottom left), all on a solid black background. And in season 1 of the latter program, the logo is positioned right next to the European Film Partners logo, both on a solid white background.
  • On Legend of Enyo, the logo is seen on a white background, with the words "Developed with the support of the MEDIA Programme of the European Community" placed above the logo.
  • At the end of Ratz, before the Xilam logo, the logo, albeit without the European flag and the words "A programme of the European Union" is placed below the words "With the participation of Centre National de la Cinématographie" and above the words "Canal J" both in a different font.
  • In season 1 of Pat the Dog, the logo is positioned above the Vanilla Seed logo, and below a plethora of other logos, including the show's co-production companies, Superprod Animation and Animoka Studios, and its' international distribution licensing agent, Superights Kids & Family Entertainment.
  • On Zombie Hotel, the logo is seen on a black background, with the words "Developed with the support of the MEDIA Programme of the European Community" in white, and in a different font, below the Irish Film Board and Film Fund Luxembourg logos.
  • On Robotboy, the logo, again, without the European flag and the words "A programme of the European Union", is placed below the words "Developed with the support of the MEDIA Programme of the European Community" in the show's customized font.
  • On The Little Astronaut, the "Europe Loves Cinema" version of the logo is at the bottom of the logo, and in-between the CNC, Region PACA, and Cofinova logos on the left, and both the ANGOA and PROCIREP logos on the right.
  • On The Amazing Adrenalini Brothers, the transparent logo is placed below the words "Made with support from the MEDIA Plus Programme of the European Community" in Futura Condensed, behind the show's credits background with the show's now-defunct URL.
  • At the end of season 3 of Oggy and the Cockroaches, also before the Xilam logo, the logo is in different positions. In the original version, the transparent version of the logo is placed below the words "With the participation of Centre National de Cinématographie and the support of the MEDIA Programme of the European Union" and above the words "Special thanks to François Deplaunck and Sophie Boé", both in the show's font, KlunderScript. In the remastered version, the logo is placed below the words "With the support of the MEDIA Programme of the European Union" and above the copyright notice, both in the same font as in the original version.
  • In 2010, the logo was updated to say "EUROPE LOVES CINEMA", in place of "A programme of the European Union", in exactly the same font as the normal logo. Both the rainbow-colored text and European flag are in the same size as the latter. "EUROPE LOVES CINEMA" is separate from the logo.
  • On some shows, such as Toot the Tiny Tugboat and later episodes of The Hive, the "Europe Loves Cinema" version of the logo are seen in their respective positions. For example, on the former show, it's placed right next to the Cloth Cat Animation and Boom Kids logos. In later episodes of the latter show, on the other hand, it's placed right next to the DQ Entertainment, Lupus Films, Monumental Productions, and Picture Production Company logos.

Audio: The end theme of any movie or TV show.

Availability: Seen on MEDIA-funded television programs or movies, debuting with the 1991 film Europa. Also seen on Les Amants des Points-Neuf, Land & Freedom, Farenelli and Festen, among others. This is also seen on children's animated TV shows, including season 3 of Oggy and the Cockroaches (both original and remastered), Ratz, The Little Astronaut, season 1 of both Dive Olly Dive! and Chloe's Closet (both formerly shown on Universal Kids, now moved to Splash Entertainment's Kabillion for both shows, and the latter is shown ITVBe's littleBe in the UK), The Amazing Adrenalini Brothers, Robotboy, Toot the Tiny Tugboat, Legend of Enyo, season 1 of Pat the Dog, later episodes of The Hive, among others.

Creative Europe MEDIA

Logo (2014-)


Visuals: On a dim blue background, a bunch of white lines (5 from left, 6 from right) slide in from the sides of the screen. As they cross, the MEDIA logo appears behind them, then leave the same line marks on the logo as they exit, while "CREATIVE EUROPE" is formed above from a cross of two lines. Then, two balls of light (one is brighter than the other) slide in, cross through the logo, and as they exit, the line marks shift slightly to the right, all while the EU flag fades in below.

Variants:

  • On some movies, "SUPPORTED BY" flourishes in above the logo through a gold swirl of light, then fades out at the end.
  • A scope version exists.
  • German and French versions of the "Supported by..." version, and their scope counterparts, all exist.
  • In the closing credits, the program's official logo would appear either in color, black (outlined in white) or white. Sometimes, "Co-funded by the European Union" is seen left to the EU flag.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: A hum with wind sounds, and a ding when the lights pass the logo.

Availability: Seen on Scream Street, The Favourite and A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon, among many other films, especially The Peasants.
