First Choice Superchannel

From the Audiovisual Identity Database, the motion graphics museum

Background

In 1984, the channel was restructured from late 1983 to 1984. First Choice's service area was restricted from the east of the Ontario-Manitoba border, along with its competitor Superchannel. The latter two were merged that year, forming the name "First Choice Superchannel".

Logo (1984-1989)

Visuals: On a black-yellow gradient background, there is a bunch of yellow/white grids in the dark hills that slowly move. A ball of light can be seen rising behind the hills as rays are bursting out of it. Then, it creates a big flash. Various pieces of a rounded star with a radial shape and a small star cut out of it begin to zoom out of distance to form the complete shape. The texts "FIRST CHOICE" and "SUPER CHANNEL" stacked horizontally. They begin to move in place with "FIRST CHOICE" in front of the star, and "SUPER CHANNEL" underneath. The star and the text slightly shift close to the screen.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A synth chime at the start, then a rising triumphant fanfare.
