Background

Avalon Hill is a game company that publishes wargames and strategic board games. Founded in 1952, the company was located in Baltimore during its early years but moved to its current location in Renton, WA at some point. In 1980, the company would establish a video game division under the name "Microcomputer Games". That division closed in 1992, and a new division was established under the simpler name of "Avalon Hill Game Company". The company's games didn't sell well, expect for the Over the Reich franchise which was developed by Big Time Software. In 1998, Monarch sold Avalon Hill and its video game division to Hasbro, who put them under Hasbro Interactive. In 2001, Infogrames purchased Hasbro Interactive from Hasbro (including the Atari name and MicroProse); Avalon Hill itself was not part of the sale and it was transferred over to Hasbro subsidiary Wizards of the Coast. As of now, the Avalon Hill library is split between Hasbro (board games and wargames) and Atari SA (the video game library).

1st (known) Logo (1995)

Nicknames: "Leo The Panther", "Black Panther of Bluntness", "The Boring Pather"

Logo: We see an orange semicircle, probably representing the sun, and a furious expression of a panther's face can be seen on the bottom of it. Below the panther is the text "AVALON HILL" in a red/yellow gradient, and "game company" below. The copyright of Monarch Avalon (dated 1994) is shown below the name.

FX/SFX: None.

Music/Sounds: The 1982 MGM roar.

Availability: Seen only on World at War: Stalingrad, it is unknown if other games from this company have this logo.

Legacy: This logo is rather boring and not that interesting. The usage of the MGM roar might upset some people. Despite this, the design of the logo does have some charm to it.
