Background

YouTube Originals (formerly known as YouTube Red Original Series from 2015 to 2018) is the film/television production arm of YouTube.

YouTube Originals (first era)

Logo (January 21, 2011)

Visuals: On a black background, we see various small red, white, and black 3D objects, such as spheres, cubes, rings, and capsules, flying towards the center of the screen, forming the then-current YouTube logo. The background turns white with particle effects once the logo forms.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A whoosh/muffled explosion sound effect.

Availability: Only seen on the 2011 documentary Life in a Day, produced by Scott Free Productions.

YouTube Red Original Series

1st Logo (2015-September 6, 2017)

Visuals: On a white background is the then-current YouTube logo. After a short while, the YouTube logo shifts left to make room for the text "Red". After the shifting freezes, the background becomes red and the logo becomes white. Below we see the text "ORIGINAL SERIES".

Variants:

  • There is a variant where the "ORIGINAL SERIES" text fades out and the YouTube Red logo shifts up to make room for "Enjoy this free preview of a YouTube Red original." Sometimes, the "ORIGINAL SERIES" text stays.
  • On movies, the text reads "ORIGINAL MOVIE".
  • On This Amazing Tour Is Not On Fire and other documentaries, the text reads "ORIGINAL DOCUMENTARY".
  • There is a variant produced in 2.39:1 aspect ratio.
  • In 2016, the font was slightly changed.

Technique: 2D animation.

Audio: A reversed synth note, followed by a ding.

Availability: Can be seen on early YouTube Red originals, including Scare PewDiePie, Bad Internet, Mind Field and DanTDM Creates a Big Scene. The movie version is seen on films such as Ghostmates. It was last seen on episode 1 of We are Savvy.

2nd Logo (August 30, 2017-2018)

Visuals: Same as the previous logo, but the 2017 YouTube icon is used and instead of just "Red", it says "YouTubeRed". The rest plays as normal.

Technique: Same as before.

Audio: Same as the previous logo.

Availability: First seen on the episode 2 trailer for Good Game, and was used for newer episodes and newer shows, before YouTube Red rebranded as YouTube Premium. After that, YouTube Premium shows use the YouTube Originals logo.

YouTube Originals (second era)

1st Logo (post-YouTube Red, pre-YouTube Premium) (March 8, 2018-May 7, 2020)

Visuals: On a white background, there is a red rounded square fading in, along with a white play symbol, forming the YouTube logo. The square moves to the left to reveal the text "YouTube Originals".

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: Same as previous 2 logos.

Availability: Seen on Kevin Hart: What the Fit, but ever since YouTube rebranded YouTube Red as YouTube Premium, this logo is no longer being used as shows on YouTube Premium tend to use the next logo.

2nd Logo (YouTube Premium) (2018-)

Visuals: Same as the 2017 YouTube Red logo, but the text reads "YouTube Originals" instead.

Variant: Starting in late 2018, the logo animates faster.

Technique: Same as the YouTube Red logo.

Audio: Same as previous 3 logos.

Availability: Seen on newer shows exclusive to YouTube Premium, such as Lockdown on YouTube Red, YouTube Originals Children + Family and the Family Channel (season 1 only; picked up by second-window with WildBrain). Also seen on Life in a Day 2020, again produced by Scott Free.

3rd Logo (Pinkfong Wonderstar variant) (October 22, 2021-)

Visuals: On a sky background, we see Pinkfong circling his finger as Hogi watches. A spark of dust flies up, then it flashes to the curved text "YOUTUBE ORIGINALS".

Technique: CGI.

Audio: The opening theme of the show.

Availability: It debuted on the season 2 trailer of Pinkfong Wonderstar on YouTube Kids.
