Background

The Warner Bros. 75th Anniversary Collection was a product line launched by Warner Home Video in 1997 to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Warner Bros. Pictures. The collection consisted of remastered reissues of classic titles as well as budget priced markdowns of catalog titles and was split into 4 categories: Award Winners, Action/Adventure, Family Entertainment and Box-Office Superstars.

Visuals: On a black background is an unknown amount of Warner Bros. VHS covers floating at a left diagonal angle. They keep floating back until a bright flash reveals the number "75". It floats down slowly revealing the word "YEARS" underneath. Then, the Warner Bros. shield, but with the text just having "WARNER BROS." in a compressed way, zooms out along with a gold box. Once the gold box zooms out, the background inside the box changes from black to blue and the words "ENTERTAINING THE WORLD" fades in underneath.

Trivia: Some titles from MGM/UA Home Video can be seen floating as well. This was due to Warner Bros' distribution deal with MGM/UA at the time.

Variants:

  • There is a later variant where the background is switched from black to the same cloud background used for the 1996 Warner Home Video logo. Also in this variant, it lacks the gold box with the blue background.
  • There is a variant where it takes place on a blue background. This can be found on a TV commercial for the 75th Anniversary Collection.
  • The VHS covers vary on all four promos. For example, the Action/Adventure promo features VHS covers for Action/Adventure movies (including Lethal Weapon and The Glimmer Man, both of which are promoted in the promo) from Warner Bros.

Closing Variant: The logo is on the top left corner of the screen. On the right is the text: "OWN IT ON VIDEO". Below is a selection of five (six for the Award Winners promo) titles promoted.

Technique: CGI animation.

Audio: An orchestral part of "The Conqueror" by Non-Stop Music (also used for the promo it's on). The VHS covers also make swishing noises when zooming out. Then, Gene McGarr says "In the biggest event in Hollywood history: the Warner Bros 75th Anniversary celebration!"

Audio Variants:

  • Sometimes what McGarr says varies. Here's an example:
    • "The Warner Bros. 75th Anniversary Video Collection: Celebrating 75 years of movie magic!"
  • At the end of at least the Award Winners promo, McGarr says "Available whenever video is sold."
  • On the Family promo, a different announcer, Brian Cummings, says "In the biggest family event in Hollywood history: The Warner Bros. 75th Anniversary Collection! Commemorating 75 Years Of Movie Magic, for the entire family!"
  • On the TV commercial for the 75th Anniversary Collection, the Superman theme by John Williams is used.
  • On another TV commercial for the 75th Anniversary Collection, the overture from Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves by Michael Kamen (also used for both the 1991 Morgan Creek and the 2007 Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment logos) is used.

Availability:

  • This can be found on most 1997-1998 Warner Home Video VHS releases, attached to promos for each of the collection's categories.
  • The black background variant can be found on the Award Winners promo, which can be found on rental copies of Contact and Fire Down Below, as well as later copies of the 1997 VHS release of Vegas Vacation, a reprint of Wildcats and the 1998 VHS release of Selena.
    • It can also be found on tapes from the Warner Bros. Hits series such as Private Benjamin, Vision Quest and The Outsiders.
  • The sky background variant is much easier to find and was used on the Family Entertainment, Action/Adventure and Box-Office Superstars trailers.
    • The Family Entertainment trailer can be found on several Warner Bros. Hits releases such as Little Shop of Horrors, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and Stephen King's IT (1990 version), as well as the original VHS releases of My Giant, Batman & Mr. Freeze: Subzero and Dennis the Menace Strikes Again!
    • The Action/Adventure trailer can be found on Memphis Belle, The World According to Garp, Fallen, and reissues of the first three Lethal Weapon films (the theatrical cuts).
    • The Box-Office Superstars trailer can be found on the 1998 rental VHS release of The Avengers.
