Background

September Films is a film and television production company founded in 1992 by David Green. Producing various reality and game shows as well as documentaries, their best known works include Bridezillas, Celebrity Squares, Penn & Teller: Fool Us, and many more. In August 2007, DCD Media acquired the company.



1st Logo (September 21, 1993-June 24, 1997)

Visuals: On a rust texture-like background with a shadow copy of the first letter in the company name, two gold and curved filmstrips elongate to form a stylised letter "S" while zooming out towards the left. Afterwards, the remaining letters in "September" wipe in from the left, followed by the fade-in of "FILMS" with two thin bars next to it and additional in-credit text and the copyright notice.

Variants:

  • Sometimes, the logo is still.
  • The in-credit information underneath varies. For instances, Channel 5 co-produced programmes has "FOR CHANNEL 5" underneath and a copyright notice.
  • Sometimes, the text "Production" is added below.
  • On The Investigators, the logo is cropped to a rectangle and within the bottom half of a gold-bordered box. The copy of the "S" is also removed. Below it is the Laurel Productions logo.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: A four note synthesised horn fanfare ending with a quick, high string note. Otherwise, none or the ending theme of the programme.

Availability: Can be seen on several documentary TV movies and shows such as Fame and Fortune and Hollywood Lovers. The animated variant was seen on a 1993 episode of Whicker's World that originally aired on Yorkshire Television. This logo does not appear on theatrical films they have produced.

2nd Logo (January 22, 1998-2001)

Visuals: The logo is similar in appearance from last time, only with more detailed filmstrips in the "S" and the font for the remaining text is different with "FILMS" in a serif font. Additionally, there is more reflection on the text compared to the previous logo.

Variant: Sometimes, this logo shares the screen with the other logos.

Technique: A still, computerized graphic.

Audio: The ending theme of the programme.

Availability: It first appeared on The Truth About Women and was later seen on Geri's World Walkabout and Teen Spirit.

3rd Logo (2001-2005)


Visuals: On a dark brown background, two curved, light red filmstrips are drawn by two lens flares while a maroon box slowly flips in and a shadow copy of the logo is seen within the background. Once the "S" is formed, the lights flash alongside the bottom text "SEPTEMBER FILMS" fades in. Additional copyright info may appear simultaneously underneath.

Variants:

  • Similar with other Channel 4 variants of United Kingdom during the early 2000's, September Film's logo is pushed to the left to make room for said channel's 1999 Squares logo. Additionally, the background is intact.
  • On Unreported World, the logo is inside a box with the shadow copy tilted.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: None or the ending theme of the programme.

Availability:

  • Some of these programmes are available on home media and do preserve this logo, including early seasons of Bridezillas, the pilot to Haunted Homes, and Las Vegas Revealed.
  • It was also seen on some documentaries such as The Secret History of Hacking.

4th Logo (June 12, 2006-)

Visuals: On a black background, bright light streaks are flowing within a fairly fixed path, creating the letter "S" while the text "SEPTEMBER FILMS" fades in and has a reflection. The camera also moves, zooming out and turning on its z-axis.

Variants:

  • Both shortened and still versions exist. The former variant may have the formation start shortly before the text appearing or just have the light streaks flowing.
  • Starting in 2007, the logo has a byline, reading "Part of DCD media" with said company's logo to the left of its name.
    • The placement of this byline can also vary, either underneath, to the bottom right, or simply next to it.
  • On Pregnant Man, the logo is squished.
  • Sometimes, this logo also shares the screen with the other logos as well.

Audio: The ending theme of the programme.

Availability:

  • It appears on many reality and game shows for more than a decade, making one of its first appearances on season 3 of Bridezillas and Haunted Homes starting with its second episode.
  • The logo would also later be seen on Blast Lab, the 2014 revival to Celebrity Squares, and Penn & Teller: Fool Us, respectively.
