Background
The Nintendo 3DS is a handheld game console produced by Nintendo. It was announced in March 2010 and unveiled at E3 2010 as the successor to the Nintendo DS. The system features backward compatibility with Nintendo DS video games.
Nintendo 3DS
1st Logo (February 26, 2011-September 17, 2020)
Visuals: Over a black background is the Nintendo 3DS logo in the same font as the Nintendo DS logo, but with a "3" added next to the word "DS".
Technique: A still digital graphic.
Audio: None.
Availability:
- Seen when you turn on a brand new 3DS for the first time.
- It is also seen on the Nintendo 2DS and Nintendo 3DS XL as well, with their respective logos replacing this one.
2nd Logo (Alternative) (February 26, 2011-September 17, 2020)
Visuals: Same as the 1st logo, except red squares appear and then disappear on the upper left and lower right corners of the top screen and the words "Nintendo" and "DS" being pushed back and a red "3" being filled into the empty space between the words. The following appears on the touchscreen:
- On games not produced by Nintendo, the words "Licensed by Nintendo" appear on the bottom screen.
- On games distributed by the company, "Distributed by Nintendo" is shown on the touchscreen.
Technique: 2D computer animation.
Audio: None.
Audio Variants: A widespread myth had videos that include this logo with the startup for Nintendo 3DS, even though there was no sound.
Availability: Seen when booting up a Nintendo 3DS game.
New Nintendo 3DS
Logo (October 11, 2014-September 17, 2020)
Visuals: Over a white background is the New Nintendo 3DS logo in the same style as the Nintendo 3DS logo, but with the word "new" above the Nintendo 3DS logo, and in the style of the Amiibo logo.
Technique: A still digital graphic.
Audio: None.
Availability: Seen when you turn on a brand new New Nintendo 3DS, New Nintendo 3DS XL and New Nintendo 2DS XL, again with their respective logos.
