Background

Miles Films is an independent Indonesian film company founded in March 10, 1995 by filmmaker Mira Lesmana, which is currently still running the company along with her long-time business partner and friend, Riri Riza, who is also the director to most of Miles' catalogue. Their very first production was the 1996 mini-series Anak Seribu Pulau, aired on local Indonesian TV network RCTI.



1st Logo (June 14, 2000)

Visuals: Against a black BG, a small, out-shaped yellow TV tube icon falls onto the screen. And then an electric circuit effect appears around it, revealing "MILES" on the left (the out-shaped TV is behind the L), and "PRODUCTIONS", which in smaller font. The logo closes with a TV-style effect.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: None.

Availability: Seen on Petualangan Sherina, which the film itself can be found in Cinekom VCD print as well as Netflix Indonesia.

2nd Logo (July 14, 2005)

Visuals: On a yellow cloudy background, a shining elixir rises up from the bottom to the center, followed by two red hand shadows also rise up while try to adjust their position against the elixir. Then the hands create a rectangle outline, stretching it around. Then the elixir turns into the letter "l" while the letters "mi" and "es" fade in, creating the word "miles", with "films" appears below it.

Technique: A mix of 2D animation and CGI.

Audio: The opening theme to the movie.

Availability: Seen on Gie.

3rd Logo (June 8, 2007-October 3, 2019)

Visuals: Just an in-credit version of the previous logo, usually put alongside co-producing companies altogether.

Technique: A still, digital graphic.

Audio: None or the opening/closing theme of the movie.

Availability: Can be seen on most Miles' catalogue during the time period from 3 Hari Untuk Selamanya to Bebas.

4th Logo (December 18, 2014-November 29, 2016)

Visuals: A little boy, animated in stop-motion, runs through a forest (in CGI). He stops as soon as he sees a sunny mountain view. Then the scene zooms out later in frame over a black background. The words "miles" with a smaller "films" right below write themselves via ray glow.

Variant: On Apa Ada Dengan Cinta? 2, the scene disappears when the texts appear.

Technique: Just a stop-motion animation mixed with CGI.

Audio: None or the opening theme of the movie.

Availability: Seen on some of the films during the time period by Miles from Pendekar Tongkat Emas to Athirah (a.k.a. Emma).

5th Logo (October 3, 2019)

Visuals: On a black-yellow gradient BG, the miles logo in orange zooms out. Once it stops, it sparkles and shines, while the background turns wholly black.

Technique: 2D animation.

Audio: The opening theme to the movie.

Availability: Seen at the beginning of Bebas.

6th Logo (November 15, 2020-)

Visuals: On a black background, a white line-oval shape rises from the bottom. It loops faster and faster as the line glows bigger. At one point the line eventually stops in the middle of the screen, turns from white to crystal, the letters "mi" slides from the line to the left and "es" slides to the right, revealing the word "miles". The word "films" fades in next to right after.

Technique: Simple 2D computer animation by LeBoYe.

Audio: Whooshes as the shape moves rapidly, followed by a whimsical, intense string tune. Otherwise, the opening theme to the movie is heard.

Audio Variant: On Petualangan Sherina 2, only the whooshes are present, followed by the opening theme.

Availability: It first appeared on Miles' showreel from their YouTube channel. Theatrically, it debuted on Paranoia and will be seen on upcoming Miles projects.
