Background

Kokopeli Digital Studios was an internal publishing brand for THQ. It operated from 1995 to early 1997.

Logo (1995-1997)

Visuals: On a black background, there is a rough-bordered plate with a view of a tropical island with sunset. The word "KokoPELi" in a custom font occupies three quarters of the whole length of the plate, and "digital studiosTM" in a smaller font is seen below near to the right corner. An aborigine moves (presumably Kokopelli), swaying and blowing a flute (some kind of ritual) from left to right. There is his hair moving, but his legs are seemingly not, as he just bounces on them. Finally, he stands right to "KokoPELi" and the music suddenly ends.

Variants:

  • Some games contain a still version of the logo, but the music still plays.
  • On the PAL version of In the Hunt, the music cuts off early.

Technique: Sprite-based animation.

Audio: A catchy tune of native instruments, flutes and drums.

Availability: Can be seen on published games for PlayStation and Saturn. The animated version can be found on In the Hunt and Alone in the Dark: One-Eyed Jack's Revenge. It also appears on early THQ games from 1997 such as WCW vs. the World and K-1: The Arena Fighters for PlayStation (although the THQ logo is seen on the cover art of said games.).
