Background

Kojima Productions is a Japanese video game studio founded in 2005 by Hideo Kojima, who created the popular Metal Gear series. It was originally part of Konami, but in 2015, it temporarily disbanded, and its contract with Konami was terminated. It was then revived as an independent studio.

1st Logo (July 28, 2005-September 2, 2015)

Visuals: On a black background, a yellow fox with lightning bolts for feet in a gray circle appears, with the words "KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS" below it. The logo soon fades out.

Trivia: The emblem is the symbol of FOX, a unit Naked Snake is in in Metal Gear Solid 3. In that logo, it shows the word "FOX".

Technique: Fading effects.

Audio: None, but in the mission credits in MGSV, the mission credits theme plays.

Availability: Seen on most Kojima Productions games until Metal Gear Solid V.

2nd Logo (July 23, 2016, November 8, 2019-)

Visuals: A blue flashlight pans across moon-like sandy ground. It pans again as a boot steps down and leaves a footprint. The screen pans up to reveal a man with a skull face in a suit of armor holding a rod. Something made of blue light zooms past. He adjusts his visor, then strikes the rod into the ground to make a flag with the "Kojima Productions" insignia of a helmet-wearing skull face pop out. A holographic whale leaps out of the river, turning blue as it makes a big splash. The screen cuts to black to reveal the skull face insignia with "Kojima" beside it; "Productions" soon fades in. The screen then cuts to the URL "www.kojimaproductions.jp", as well as the copyright "©KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS CO., LTD. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.", which fades out.

Trivia: The armor suit that the man is wearing is called "Ludens" and it was inspired by medieval knights and exploration suits.

Variants:

  • A much simpler prototype variant made by Prologue Films can be found on said company's Vimeo account. It consists of the skull on the black background, with only the "Kojima" text, having various parts of its helmet shift into place. The "Productions" text then fades in.
  • On the trailer for Hideo Kojima: Connecting Worlds, the print logo appears beside the PlayStation Studios and Filmworks logos.
  • In the opening of Death Stranding, the URL and copyright are not shown.

Technique: CGI by Prologue Films.

Audio: The footstep, followed by incoherent radio dialogue and ambient noises that reach a high note as the man strikes the flag into the ground. Splashing is heard when the whale jumps. Creepy screeching noises are heard over the "Kojima Productions" logo and URL. The prototype variant uses catchy synth music.

Availability: It debuted on YouTube on July 23, 2016, and made its game debut in 2019's Death Stranding, where it appears the first time you boot up the game. The prototype, as mentioned, can be found on Prologue Films' Vimeo account.

Legacy: This logo was well received by many gamers due to its surrealness and spectacular animation.
