Background

Panasonic Holdings Corporation is a Japanese electronics company headquartered in Kadoma, Osaka. It was founded in 1918 by Kōnosuke Matsushita under the name Matsushita Electric. In the 20th century, the company was the largest electronic manufacturer worldwide. In the Japanese market most of Matsushita's products were sold under the National brand. In 1955, the company began distributing audio players and lamps internationally under PanaSonic. A related company, Sanyo, was founded by Toshio Iue, the brother-in-law of Kōnosuke Matsushita in 1947.

In 2008, Matsushita Electric changed its name to Panasonic Corporation. During that time, the company began phasing out the National and Sanyo brands and fused them under the Panasonic brand. In 2022, it became a holding company.

Currently, the company's focus on manufacturing tends to be towards automotive and air transport, industrial solutions, and home renovation and construction utilities.
