Background

DirectTV (stylized and trademarked as DIRECTV) is an American multichannel video programming distributor that is perhaps most known for their digital satellite service. Founded on June 27, 1994, they were purchased by AT&T for $67.1 billion on July 24, 2015, but AT&T would later spin off the company, along with U-Verse TV and DirectTV Stream, into a separate entity and also sell a 30% stake to TPG Inc. while maintaining a 70% stake in the new company, which would go through on August 2, 2021.

Nicknames:

  • "The D-Box" (2011 version)
  • "The AT&T Globe", "The Death Star" (2016 version)

Logo: TBA.

Variants:

  • In 2015, it just says "DIRECTV". Underneath is the byline "Now part of the AT&T family" with the then-current AT&T globe beside it. This is basically a placeholder for the next variant.
  • Starting in 2016, the current AT&T globe in light blue is added beside it.
    • The globe is sometimes colored in white.

FX/SFX: Amazing CGI.

Music/Sounds: A whimsical and grand orchestral theme.

Music/Sounds Variant: Starting in 2016, it contains the AT&T's jingle at the end.

Availability: Common.

Editor's Note: With the spin-off from AT&T and a new logo introduced by DirecTV on August 2, 2021, this logo's days are numbered. The globe still appears on its headquarters, along with AT&T branding, likely since the company is still associated with the latter in some way.
