Background

Anycall (Korean: 애니콜) was a South Korean mobile phone brand established by Samsung Electronics in 1993, marketed mostly in South Korea and most Chinese regions.

1st Screen (2001)

Visuals:

  • Startup: Over a green background are three animal characters, a pig, a dog and a rooster, dancing with a wooden fence seen behind. Above the Anycall logo in blue moves down into position.
  • Shutdown: On a blue background, the same three characters dive into a pit. The text "Bye Bye!" appears above.

Technique: 2D animation.

Audio: A monophonic theme.

Audio Variant: The SPH-X2509 uses a xylophone theme for the startup. For the shutdown, it is a different, descending xylophone theme.

Availability: Seen on the earliest Anycall models with a startup and shutdown in color, being the SCH-X200, SCH-X210 and SPH-X2509 models.

2nd Screen (2001-2005)

Visuals: Over computer-generated scenery, mostly in relation to the type of animation that later plays on the startup, is the Anycall wordmark with the slogan "Digital Exciting" above.

Variants:

  • Initially the logo appeared in the SPH-X140 without a background. On the SPH-X4000, it is seen with the CDMA2000 logo below.
  • As mentioned, the background screen could change depending on the model.
    • On several devices, the logo is seen on an underwater scene with plants, rocks and coral items.
    • On the SCH-X230 and X270, the logo is seen through a diagonal multicolored square background.
    • On the SPH-X4209 and SPH-X430S, the rainbow logo is seen on a blue sky with clouds.
    • On the SCH-V300, it is a beach with the Anycall logo in rainbow.
    • On the SCH-X800 and other devices, it is a scene featuring multiple flowers and plants. The Anycall logo and slogan are placed on the bottom-right corner.
      • The SCH-E140 features this variant, without the Anycall logo and slogan.
    • On the SCH-M420 (and possibly other Anycall-branded Windows Mobile devices), the blue logo is seen on a white background with a shadow.
    • On the SCH-S260, the logo is seen through a Korean wallpaper with a candle placed in a chair next to it. The letters then fly away.
  • On phones like the SCH-E470, the Anycall logo is seen on a gradient background with a shadow behind it.

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: None.

Audio Variant: The animated variants feature the startups as described in the Samsung Mobile page.

Availability: Seen when booting up early Korean Anycall phones before the startup animations appear. The SPH-X140 and SPH-X4000 were the first phones to include this screen.

3rd Screen (2001-2002)

Visuals:

  • Startup: Starts with a view of a rural area with a windmill. It then shrinks into the center revealing the Anycall logo.
  • Shutdown: A shot of a city at night is seen, with a shooting star.

Variant: The updated Anycall logo with the slogan is used on the SCH-X460.

Technique: Sprite animation.

Audio: The xylophone themes as heard on the SPH-X2509 with the 1st screen. This would also appear on later Anycall and Samsung phones during 2002.

Availability: Seen on the SPH-X4000, SCH-X420 and SCH-X460 models.

4th Screen (2001)

Visuals: A fairy appears with a wand as particles are seen around the screen. Then the "Anycall" logo forms in the center.

Technique: Sprite animation.

Audio: The startup sound from before.

Availability: Seen on the SCH-X350 model.

5th Screen (2002)

Visuals:

  • Startup: A multicolored kaleidoscopic iris appears from the center of the screen, expanding out into a white background where the blue "Anycall" logo is seen.
  • Shutdown: A reversed version of the same animation.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: Same as before.

Availability: Seen on the SCH-X230, X250 and X270 models.

6th Screen (2002-2003)

Visuals:

  • Startup: On a radial white/rainbow background, the text "Welcome" blurs into view and changes into the "Anycall" logo with the slogan. A magnifier then moves in front of the logo, as the radial texture of the background flickers.
  • Shutdown: One the same radial background, the text "Goodbye!" blurs into view.

Variant: An alternate rendition appears on the SCH-X600 model.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: A 10-note arpeggiating harpsichord theme with a xylophone crescendo at the middle is heard for the startup. The shutdown sound is a 4-note descending theme with a bell instrument.

Availability: Seen on the SCH-E135, SCH-X570 and SCH-X580 model.

7th Screen (2003)

Visuals:

  • Startup: Starts with a night skyline where fireworks are seen shooting out. Then the Anycall logo, in blue with the slogan, fades in. Spotlights are then seen revealing it.
  • Shutdown: The screen is set on a sunset view of a lighthouse where the Anycall logo in black and the "cdma2000" logo in white are seen.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio:

  • SPH-X4200, X4209: Same as the 3rd logo.
  • SPH-X5900: Same as before.

Availability: Seen on the SPH-X4209 and SPH-X5900 models.

8th Screen (2003-2004)

Visuals: Same as the 3rd Samsung Mobile logo, but instead of the Samsung logo appearing, the Anycall wordmark with the slogan "Digital Exciting" above is shown.

Variants:

  • A freeze-frame of the logo appears before the animated one in several phones.
  • There's another version where the background is changed to a rainbow one.

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: Depends on the model.

  • The SCH-E110, SPH-X7500, SPH-X7700 and SPH-X7509 used the "Cheerful" themes.
  • The SCH-X730 used the 10-note startup theme and 4-note shutdown theme used by Samsung during 2002-2003.
  • The SPH-X8500 used the energetic themes which were also used by other Samsung phones during 2003.

Availability: Seen on few Anycall phones released in Korea including the SCH-E110, SCH-X730, SPH-X7700, SPH-X8500.

9th Screen (2004-2005)

Visuals: Multiple blue, yellow and red spheres moving through a grid environment. The Anycall logo with the slogan then fades in above, in blue.

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio:

  • 2004:
    • Startup: A funky theme.
    • Shutdown: A rearrangement of the startup.
  • 2005:
    • Startup:
      • Primary: The 6-note theme used by Samsung Mobile during the year.
      • Secondary: A 7-note happy-sounding plucked synth tune, also used for other Samsung phones of the time.
    • Shutdown:
      • Primary: Same as the primary startup, but the notes are descending instead of ascending.
      • Secondary: Same as the secondary startup, but the notes are adjusted with a pad playing along it.

Audio Variants:

  • The SPH-X9850 used different, more electronic funky themes.
  • The SCH-S140 featured a different arrangement of the 2nd theme.
  • The SCH-S140 and SCH-X850 used the melodic theme used in 2003-2005.
  • The SCH-X850 also bundled special themes, being a rock theme for the startup and a dramatic theme for the shutdown.

Availability: Seen on the SCH-S140, SCH-S380, SCH-X850, SPH-S1350, SPH-S1450, and SPH-X9850 Anycall models.

10th Screen (2005)

Visuals: Four colored spheres are on a blue squared floor. The spheres merge together and separate as they spin. The screen then turns white with the "Anycall" logo fading in blue.

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio:

  • SPH-E3700: The 6-note theme used by Samsung Mobile in 2005.
  • SCH-E560: The funky themes. The 2003-2005 melodic themes are also bundled.

Availability: Seen on Anycall phones such as the SPH-E3700.

11th Logo (2005)

Visuals: A red sphere comes out from a pod over a gridded tube environment, powering on and shooting out along with other spheres. The Anycall logo with the slogan, in blue, then fades in.

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: An energetic, funky instrumental, followed by a male voice saying "Digital Exciting. Anycall" at the end. The shutdown theme is a mellow breakbeat theme with chopped voice samples.

Audio Variant: Some phones also used the 2005 Samsung Mobile theme.

Availability: Seen on Anycall phones such as the SCH-S250.

12th Logo (2005-2006)

Visuals: On a blue light background, multiple colored light rays are shown moving. These are later revealed to be shooting out of the zooming "Digital Exciting" and "Anycall" logos moving into the screen. The Anycall logo centers to the screen, before it turns white with it turning blue.

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: The third theme from the 9th logo.

Audio Variants:

  • The SCH-V600 and V700 used the 2005 Samsung Mobile theme.
  • The SCH-V600 also featured the energetic themes from the previous logo, with the startup shortened.

Availability: Seen on Anycall phones such as the SCH-S270, SCH-S310, SCH-V650, SCH-V840 and SPH-B2550.

13th Logo (2006-2007)

Visuals:

  • Startup: Multiple colored streaks appear forming the Anycall logo. Then light particles appear around it.
  • Shutdown: The Anycall logo is shown disappearing as multiple light particles are seen around.

Trivia: This animation was also adapted for the Samsung Fun Club logo in a few models, like the SGH-L310.

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: Depends on the model.

  • SCH-V870: The third theme from the 9th logo.
  • SCH-V940, SPH-B6550, SPH-V9850: A techno theme.
  • SPH-S4850: The 2005 6-note theme.
  • SPH-V9850: A light, chiming theme with airy sounds. This is rearranged in the shutdown.

Availability: Seen on few Anycall models released in Korea, including the SCH-B490, SCH-V850, SCH-V870 and SPH-B6550.

14th Logo (2007)

Visuals:

  • Startup: The screen is set on a shot of a sunny grass field, panning from the sky to below. The blue Anycall logo, with the "Digital Exciting" slogan above it, fades in.
  • Shutdown: Starts with the same grass field but at nighttime, as the camera pans into the sky. The Anycall logo and slogan are shown in white before fading out.

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: The 4th theme from the previous logo.

Availability: Seen on few Anycall models released in Korea, including the SPH-B6550.

15th Logo (2007-2009)

Visuals: On a white or black background, a cube is formed by the words "TALK" in green, "PLAY" in blue, and "LOVE" in magenta. Below the text is the Anycall logo with the new slogan "TALK PLAY LOVE" below it. A progress bar is shown below the logo.

Variant: On the SHC-Z140S, the elements are rearranged, with the cube at the left and the Anycall logo next to it with "Samsung" above.

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: None.

Availability: Seen on late 2000s Anycall models including the SPH-M7200, SPH-W7100, SHC-Z140S, and SHW-A200K.

16th Logo (2008-2009)

Visuals:

  • Startup: The dotted texts, "TALK" in green, "PLAY" in blue, and "LOVE" in magenta, form in front of a black background. These words then disappear as it reveals the Anycall cube logo from before.
  • Shutdown: Starts with the formed logo from before. The cube fades out as dots are seen moving out of it, and the Anycall text later does so.

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: A lush chime re-arrangement of the Sixième Son Samsung Mobile theme, with extra notes.

Audio Variant: The SPH-W7100 model featured a cute arrangement of the theme with sound effects (chimes at the beginning, with a squeak at the startup and a boing at the shutdown).

Availability: Seen on the SPH-W8400 and SPH-W7100 models.
