AB Productions

Background

This was a production company and distributor owned by the AB Groupe. The company was generally focused on the production of children's cartoons, music, and other properties, including those produced by fellow French company Créativité & Développement.

Logo (1987-1999?)

Visuals: On a blue/black gradient background, the AB Groupe logo zooms out while shining a metallic texture to them. The logo consists of the letters "AB" in an abstract font along with some overlap. After the letters settle, silver rods zoom out below the logo and reveal themselves as the text "PRODUCTIONS", and the entire logo shines.

Variants:

  • A still version exists where the print logo is used with duller colors on a black background.
  • Later on, "PRODUCTIONS" was replaced by the psuedo-3D text "DISTRIBUTION", which flashed in with shines and sparkles. The AB logo's shining is also altered when the text appears.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A rhythmic synth tune with horns. The still version cuts off the music after the first part.

Availability:

  • This was seen on the Westwood Media dub of Dragon Ball Z, the Blue Water Studios dub of Dragon Ball and other cartoons and anime the company distributed or dubbed.
  • The variant can be seen on the 1990s version of Littlest Pet Shop, which was released on VHS by Family Home Entertainment, as well as season 2 of Conan the Adventurer and the short-lived Happy Ness: Secret of the Loch.
  • As for the distribution logo, it used to be seen on French prints of Mad About You, Friends and Family Matters, among others; modern releases of the aforementioned don't use the logo as they all use domestic American prints.
