Background

United Artists Classics was an art-house division of United Artists Corporation. Set up in 1980 by Michael Barker, Tom Bernard, and Marcie Bloom, it released foreign films and first-run reissues of United Artists films. When MGM purchased United Artists in 1981, it was preceded with MGM/UA Entertainment Co. (also referred as "MGM/UA Classics"). It ended in 1984.

(1980-1984)

Logo: It's the same as the 1981 United Artists logo, except now it reads "United Artists Classics".

Trivia: This logo was done during the sale of United Artists from Transamerica to MGM, so it's mainly a placeholder logo. Early films, such as Truffaut's The Last Metro, might have had the Transamerica T and byline like the 1976 logo on initial release, but no prints with this proposed early variant have yet surfaced.

FX/SFX: None.

Music/Sounds: None.

Availability: Found at the end of the re-issue trailer of The Last Waltz on the DVD release, as well as the 1983 VHS release of The Grey Fox from Media Home Entertainment, and the 1984 VHS release of Gabriela from MGM/UA Home Video. Also seen on the Twilight Time Blu-Ray of Chilly Scenes Of Winter, as well as on the TGG double feature DVD set with Cutter's Way.
