Background

Tyler Perry Studios is the production company of actor/writer/director/playwright Tyler Perry. Lionsgate is the main distributor of the company's movies, although Paramount Pictures and Netflix have distributed a few of TPS' movies.

The Tyler Perry Company

(February 25, 2005-February 24, 2006)

Logo: We fade into a yellow object flashing. As we zoom out, it reveals that it is a filmstrip with a "P" on top of it, and a "t" that is animating with the filmstrip. After a few seconds, the parts of the "t" and "P" come together, forming a 3D stylized "tP". The words "THE TYLER PERRY COMPANY" fade in below the "tP".

Variant: A fullscreen version exists.

Technique: The zooming out of the filmstrip and the "tP".

Music/Sounds: None or the opening theme of the movie.

Availability: Rare. Seen on early Tyler Perry films and stage plays, such as Madea Goes to Jail: The Play, Diary of a Mad Black Woman and Madea's Family Reunion.

Tyler Perry Studios

1st Logo (February 14, 2007-2016)

Note: The sound effects on the second video start at 1:38.

Logo: On a brown foggy background, a light shines behind a spinning filmreel. After a few seconds, the camera pans onto a gold filmstrip. The camera follows the filmstrip down to another filmreel and then pans away from the reel onto the filmstrip as it shines golden. The camera then pans upside down to the "tP" from the last logo as the light dies down and the filmstrip makes a shape of a 3-D "S". A lens flare is seen as the top and bottom parts of the filmstrip disappear. The "t", "P" and "S" are together with the bottom part of the "t" inside the hole of the "P" and the filmstrip "S" is aside the "P". "TYLER PERRY STUDIOS" in a light brown color fades in below the "tPS".

Variants:

  • Fullscreen and scope versions exist.
  • At the end of movies from the company, the logo appears in-credit.
  • On TV shows from the company and at the end of Tyler Perry's later stage plays, there exists a shortened version of the logo.
  • On later shows starting with The Haves and the Have Nots and Love Thy Neighbor, the logo is still with a copyright stamp for "Tyler Vision, LLC" underneath the logo.
    • A service mark symbol (SM) was added to this variant in 2015.

Technique: The filmreel, the filmstrip, the lights, and the appearance of the letters and company name.

Music/Sounds: Sounds from the filmreel and filmstrip are played throughout. Whoosh sounds are heard when the camera pans.

Music/Sounds Variant: Sometimes, the logo is silent, or the opening/closing theme of the movie/TV show plays over.

Availability: Seen on Tyler Perry's films such as Daddy's Little Girls, Why Did I Get Married?, and Meet the Browns. The television version is seen on TV productions such as House of Payne, Meet the Browns, The Haves and the Have Nots, Love Thy Neighbor and If Loving You is Wrong.

3rd Logo (August 22, 2016- )

Logo: On a black background, we see two 90-degree rotated, mirrored "T"s form. After a few seconds, the "T"s' split into parts that fly off screen, revealing the text "TYLER PERRY STUDIOS", which zooms in for a few seconds. Dark gray gradients coming from 4 invisible rectangles can be seen throughout.

Variants:

  • A scope version exists.
  • On television shows, we see the two mirrored Ts with "TYLER PERRY STUDIOS" underneath and the Tyler Vision, LLC copyright stamp below.

Technique: The Ts forming and splitting to make room for "TYLER PERRY STUDIOS".

Music/Sounds: A synth fanfare with a bass drop and a whoosh when the parts of the "T" fly off screen.

Music/Sounds Variant: Like the previous logo, sometimes, the logo is silent, or it has the opening/closing theme of the movie/TV show playing over.

Availability: Current. Seen on all movies from the company, starting with Boo! A Madea Halloween. It's also seen on TV shows from the company, starting with Too Close to Home on TLC.
