Background

Telé-université, currently known as Université TÉLUQ is a public French-language distance learning university, part of the Université du Québec system. It was founded in 1972 to develop distance education courses.

1st Logo (1970s)

Visuals: On a black background, there is an egg that has just been hatched out of, its vitellus visible. Superimposed over it are three thick white vertical lines, one extending down further than the others and three layers of text: "Université du Québec", "Télé-université, and "Québec: 657 2283". The text fades out. We then get a new scene, where the egg is still visible to the right, but to the left is the newborn chick and the broken eggshells that it left when it hatched out. The chick is still wet and crouched on the ground, with its umbilical cord and yolk still attached. The text on screen is the same as before, except now the bottom layer reads "Extérieur de Qué: 1-800-463-4722". The text fades out, then fades back in as the chick squirms. It is once again the same except for the number: "Montreál: 935 7401". The logo fades out.

Technique: Live-action, along with the fading in.

Audio: An oddly-arranged flute theme.

Legacy: This logo is seen as disturbing to some people due to the darkness, chick, and haunting soundtrack, especially given that this was from an educational company. It should be noted that while many viewers are concerned for the chick, the chick is fine. That is not a piece of wounded flesh hanging off of it as some believe, but its yolk, as the chick has just hatched.

2nd Logo (1993)

Visuals: An in-credit logo version of the previous logo where the only difference is being the color of the lines, which are light blue.

Technique: None. [possible misuse]

Audio: None.

Availability: Was so far only seen on the documentary La Garde en Milieu Familial.
