1st Logo (March 1998)

Visuals: In a lobby of a movie theater, the doors in front of us open up and then we fly into the darkness. 5 cubes in red, blue, yellow, green, and purple fly into the screen and flat in mid air as the blue cube flies into an area where the screen is and ripples. Many music notes and sections fly towards the screen with the light at the end. The red cube then flies into the screen and the music notes disappear as fire emerges on the screen, which is then extinguished by water and steam comes out as the purple cube flies into the screen and it segues into a shot of clouds with 2 spaceships fly pass and roundabout in which the green cube flies in and the spaceships fly out. The screen then fades to a shot of a rain forest during the day. The yellow cube flies in and then the screen zooms onto the screen which then fades to shots electrical circuits and boards. We fly by the boards as electricity runs on them and occasionally shoot out beams of it. We turn a corner and then the cubes fly past us and then land onto a dark section. "Digital" zooms out, followed by "Cinema" and "Sound", as the cubes form a "D" shape and rotate into place before the screen become black and the cubes become grey and flat.

Technique: Combination of live-action and CGI. Very well done for the time.

Audio: People are heard talking at the beginning with synths when the cubes fly in. Sounds are then played to match what is seen on the screen and then electricity is heard when the camera enters the screen, Whooshes are heard when the cubes fly past us and then it ends with a synth chord.

Availability: Used as a logo for the promotional Sony DVD The Best in Digital Home Entertainment.

2nd Logo (Late 1990s)

Visuals: On a black background, the cubes from before, now glowing, fly in one by one before they start heading towards a globe made of electricity and data. The cubes enter the globe, revealing a city at night. The cubes fly around the city before reaching a giant Sony studio mixer. They fly over it and then red curtains pull back to reveal a white screen. The cubes then form the "D" shape from before and becomes bluish-grey as the camera turns towards the screen and then "Digital Cinema Sound" in the same color flies in from all sides before it meets up with the logo. The background becomes black.

Technique: CGI

Audio: Footsteps are heard first when the cubes are not seen. Whooshes and other sounds follow when the logo actually begins and then it starts with a synth tune in the city section before it segues into a orchestral theme.
