Background

SM Entertainment Co.,Ltd. (formerly "SM Studios") is a South Korean multinational entertainment company founded in 1995 by Lee Soo-man. The company has developed and popularized numerous K-pop stars with huge global fandoms. Notable talent agents that have been signed to S.M. Entertainment/SMTOWN alumini include Kangta, EXO, SNSD, JMin, Red Velvet and its subunit group itself entitled Red Velvet: Irene and Seulgi, NCT, Super Junior, BoA, Kenzie and as well as other artists from this music label. This is located and headquartered in Seoul, South Korea, in which it consists of K-pop, dance pop, R&B, and EDM music, as well as film and TV producting industry.

1st Logo (1997-2017)

Visuals: On a white background, there is a smooth writing of "S.M." in the middle on top in either light rose or pink with two pink-colored petals which are both opposite on the left of the big written letter "S". Below the SM sketch writing it says S.M. ENTERTAINMENT spreaded into it's own position, all in capitals and in a black fashionable font. Between the letters "S" and "M" consists of two black dots both appearing on the right sides of them plus they are also spaced out in its position by giving the latters enough room.

Variant: Most of its company's music video trailers and teasers have the SM Entertainment logo put on a light pink background; while the latter is all tinted in white, at this time. So similar to the original counterpart, both "SM" and the "S.M. ENTERTAINMENT" text are exactly a bit smaller as it is in this version. Therefore this can probably be seen at the very end of the full MV trailer of Red Velvet's song "Rebirth", which was released on 18 August 2017 (coming from the latter's hit album SM Station Vol. No. 2), and as well as on the said company's other licensed music video contents of official trailers/teasers.

Audio Variants:

  • On the SM Music Festival Tour Special, it has the end theme, along with an announcer/or host(s) talking and speaking in the background.
  • On Mickey Mouse Club and Red Velvet's Level Up Project, it only just has the ending theme of these shows playing over it, but this time with no background announcer heard at all.

Availability: This is seen on SME's rebranded group artist or solo performer's posters and on older released music videos via it's official YouTube SM channel page. This is also seen on the live music series special, SM Music Festival Tour, premiered sometime in 2014-2015, older episodes of the web reality music challenge TV series SM Rookies on Mnet and SME's official Youtube account (until 2017) and as well as another TV special, entitled Mickey Mouse Club on Disney Channel Korea.

2nd Logo (2017-)

Visuals: There is the 2017 SM Entertainment print logo over a black background. The SM symbol is positioned on the left, and the text on the right. The dot at the bottom of the stylized symbol is filled, which then flips over to the usual outlined dot.

Variants:

  • Sometimes, the logo appears in another color. For example, yellow on NCT 127 - '영웅 (英雄; Kick It)'.
  • The logo can be superimposed onto a background on some music videos. For example, blood falling on Red Velvet - 'Bad Boy', and curtains on Red Velvet - '짐살라빔 (Zimzalabim)'.
  • On NCT Dream - '맛 (Hot Sauce)', the background is red.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: A synth bass slide, followed by an electric guitar chord.

Audio Variants:

  • Sometimes, especially on the logo's early years, the logo is silent.
  • Otherwise, it's the ending theme of the program or video.

Availability: This can be seen on almost all SMTOWN music videos starting from 2017, as well as teasers for said MVs.

3rd Logo (2018-)

Visuals: This time, it now uses the current SM Entertaiment logo, but for the new "S.M." redesign branding, the smooth pink writing have been replaced with two big slight wavy lines in black (print logo only) or maybe likely pink/or white, going down to reach it's way to both the "S" and the "M", this time. Below the "S" and "M" with 1 period O, the text at the bottom reads:

both stacked together to spread in it's normal position as usual but though the font looks different and is also more fashionable as well, not the one from before.

Audio Variant: On SM Rookies, it uses the end theme of the show.
