Background

Rebellion is a game developer created in 1991 and currently residing in Oxford, UK. They are best known for their Aliens vs. Predator series. In 2006, Rebellion purchased assets of closed Elixir Studio and acquired Core Design from Eidos, as well as Strangelite from Empire Interactive.



1st Logo (1991-2002)

Visuals: A reddish flash occurs, morphing into the logo, which consists of "REBELLiON" in a cruderly drawn font with a line below.

Trivia: The logo itself bears resemblance to the logo for Solidarity (Solidarność), a Polish trade union, designed by Jerzy Janiszewski.

Variants: There are several variations.

  • On Gunlok, the logo is revealed by the blue cloud of flame.
  • Sometimes, the logo could be still.

Technique: 2D animation.

Audio: Heavy shine sound.

Availability: Seen on The Mummy and Aliens vs Predator of the era.

2nd Logo (October 17, 2003-December 6, 2007)

Visuals: There is the same logo from before, which begins to crack at the left side and breaks into pieces of wood, carried away to the right.

Variant: On Gunfighter II, an old projector effect was used instead.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: Cracking and whizzing sounds.

Availability: Seen on the games like Judge Dredd, Sniper Elite and Aliens vs Predator: Requiem.

3rd Logo (November 11, 2008-)

Visuals: The complete logo appears. Then it starts to fray at both sides, white-hot fragments flying directly at us until the whole logo is destroyed.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: Enhanced cracking and whizzing sounds.

Availability: Appeared on games, starting with Call of Duty: World at War – Final Fronts.
