Background

Panarecord was an Italian record label founded in 1976 which also produced videocassettes to 1985 until 1999. The company was bought up in 1990 by RCS and was converted into a label by 1992.

1st logo (placeholder logo) (1985-1986)

Note: This includes the warning screen!

Visuals: On a black background, 2 dull orange pieces, one obtuse-angled triangle from the lower left, and a thick, broken ring from the top right, slide in from their respective places and create a symbol that resembles a backwards abstract Q, which is actually supposed to be a record with a stylus attached to it. Then, a dull orange block appears below as the 2 shapes meet, with white sprocket holes to represent a filmstrip and the text "PANARECORD" in a stylized font with a long line attached to the right of it. The logo then zooms up to the upper middle, which makes room for the following Italian warning text:

La Societa' proprietaria
dello spettacolo riprodotto in questa
videocassetta ha ceduto i diritti
su licenza alla PANARECORD S.p.A.
per uso esclusivamente domestico.
Qualsiasi altro uso diverso dalla
visione privata quale - a puro titolo
di esempio - l'esecuzione in pubblico,
la trasmissione televisiva,
la duplicazione - sia parziale che
totale, sia a pagamento che
gratuitamente - costituiscono un
illecito civile e penale previsto dalle
norme giruidiche poste a tutela
del copyright.
I trasgressori non potranno
invocare la 'buona fede'
in considerazione dell'evidenza
data ai limiti di uso di questa
videocassetta, e saranno pertanto
punibili a termini di legge.
(The company that owns the show reproduced in this videocassette has given the licensing rights to PANARECORD S.p.A. for home use only. Any other use other than private viewing such as - purely by way of an example - public exhibition, transmission in television, duplication - both partial and total, both for a fee and for free - constitute a civil and criminal offense foreseen by legal regulations placed for copyright protection. The transgressors will not be able to invoke "good faith" in consideration of the evidence given to the limits of the use of this videocassette, and therefore will be punished according to the law.)

Technique: 2D animation.

Audio: None.

Availability: Seen on early VHS tapes of their "Videomatto" brand, including Tom & Jerry. Possibly a placeholder for the next logo.

2nd logo (1986-1992)

Note: This includes the warning screen!

Visuals: On a black background, the Panarecord logo from before, though now a metallic orange color and in "3D", appears in the middle of the screen, starting off extremely small before zooming in slowly. As it stops at a much larger size, a metallic orange filmstrip wipes in below via a bar of light as the Panarecord wordmark writes in below in black, ending with a ping of light. The symbol then pings on the top left and bottom right of the disc portion, and then the logo fades out into an embossed version of it on the background, making room for the first set of Italian warning text:

Variant: On a promo for "Videomatto" tapes, the logo is abridged.

Technique: 2D computer effects.

Audio: A synth pop tune. After 54 seconds, the theme loops before fading out shortly after.

Availability: Seen on several MGM/UA tapes licensed to them, including their line of "Videomatto" children's tapes.

3rd logo (1992-1999)

Visuals: On a shaded blue, stone-textured background, a black filmstrip with white sprockets, as well as the Panarecord wordmark in it partially cropped on the right, fades in below, colored semi-transparently. Above it, a transparent broken ring fades in and rotates around twice counter clockwise. A transparent white obtuse-angled triangle then fades in and slides into the gap of the ring, forming the Panarecord symbol.

Technique: 2D CGI animation.

Audio: A MIDI-esque orchestral fanfare.

Availability: Seen on a Italian VHS copy of A Brief History of Time, as well as other tapes under the Panarecord label from RCS.
