Odeon (Greece)

From the Audiovisual Identity Database, the motion graphics museum

1st Logo (1997-2000)

Visuals: Just the text "ODEON S.A." in a white serif font on a black background.

Technique: A still, computerized graphic.

Audio: None.

Availability: Appears on Greek prints of films like The Fifth Element and Saving Private Ryan.

2nd Logo (2000-2003)

Visuals: On a background of the Earth with rotating meteors, there is a train travel past us on a floating filmstrip. We then see a rocket-like thing moving up-right, then more filmstrips as the camera reveals a floating city with the word "ODEON" in gold on top. As a light shines brightly, an electricity spark appears. The city disappears, meteors fly towards the screen, and the word "ODEON", along with the URL "www.odeon.gr", appears. After a few more electricity sparks, the background dims and the text shines.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A gong sound leading into a majestic string theme, with other sounds that match the actions.

Availability: Seen on DVDs and videotapes released at the time, such as the VHS releases of Ice Age, Hey Arnold!: The Movie, and Rugrats in Paris: The Movie.

3rd Logo (2003-)

Visuals: On a dark blue-blackgradient background, a spotlight shines down. After a while, some ripple-like circles appear as a floor-like surface appears, followed by a flash as a light draws a star. When it's done, some gold streaks appear, connecting with the star, which is now half-formed. The letters of the word "ODEON" flash in and flash lightblue, as the URL "www.odeon.gr" appears below.

Variants:

  • On some DVDs, the star is 2D and doesn't rotate.
  • In 2003, there was a 20th Anniversary variant where "20" appears in the star with "th" to its upright, and "anniversary" in spaced-out letters appears below "ODEON".

Technique: CGI.

Audio: An echoing sleigh bell-like sound, with a whoosh as the ripples appear, a whoosh along the flash, some humming and banging noises as the star is being drawn, a five-note orchestral theme as the letters appear, an orchestral hit, and a humming sound.

Availability: Found on DVDs released at the time, such as DVDs for SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer.
