Background

The Nintendo Switch, initially known by its codename, Nintendo NX, is a hybrid video game console developed by Nintendo and released worldwide on March 3, 2017. It is the successor to both the Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS, as the console can either be used as a handheld or docked to a TV.

Nintendo NX

(October 18, 2016)

Logo: On a blue background, the words "NX" fade in, at the left side of "N" is a white circle with a dot in it, the circle then spins for a bit until it stops spinning to the right, the entire logo then fade out.

Technique: Simple animation.

Music/Sounds: None.

Availability: Ultra rare, This logo was never seen to the public outside Nintendo, this logo was then discovered on a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe prototype (not seen during gameplay) which was apparently recovered from a Switch ODIN-eMMC and was dumped online on November 20, 2022.

Nintendo Switch

Logo: On a red background, we see the words "NINTENDO SWITCH" stacked, like this:

N I N T E N D O
SWITCH

"SWITCH" is bigger in font size. We also see two stylized Joycons beside each other. The left one is outlined, the right one is filled. Then, the right Joycon settles itself to be in line with the left one.

Variants:

  • When the console is turned on for the first time, the animation plays as normal, with "NINTENDO" missing, being added in sync with the click, but after that the screen zooms into between the Joycons as they split apart and the screen fades to white.

  • When a game is started from the menu, a black screen is shown with the Nintendo logo in white in the top-left corner, and the Nintendo Switch logo in the bottom-right, with the Joycons to the left of the console name. The right Joycon lifts up and falls down again, causing the letters of "SWITCH" to spin.

Technique: 2D animation.
