Background

NetherRealm Studios was originally founded as Midway Games' Chicago studio, and was hugely renowned for the Mortal Kombat game series. The studio survived the closure of its parent company and was sold to Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment in 2009, being renamed to "WB Games Chicago" for some time. Under its current name, the studio first developed the 2011 Mortal Kombat game.

Nicknames: "The Scorpion Silhouette", "The Mortal Kombat Logo"

Logo: On a black background is a silhouette of a rising Scorpion, one of the many fighters from Mortal Kombat, dangling his spear. Behind him is an animated red fireball. The picture eases back and flashes into a still image with "NETHEЯREALM STUDIOS" below stacked. The first "R" in "NETHERREALM" is backwards.

Trivia: The company's name comes from the Netherrealm, a hell-like dimension from the Mortal Kombat series.

Variants:

  • On the web series Mortal Kombat Legacy, the logo is shortened to the second half.
  • On the downloadable Mortal Kombat Arcade Collection and WWE Immortals, the logo is still.
  • On Injustice: Gods Among Us, the logo is gray and appears on stone.
  • The logo is plain white on Mortal Kombat X and Injustice 2.

FX/SFX: The fireball, the flash, the camera.

Music/Sounds: A hissing that sustains itself throughout the logo and a chime when it flashes. None for the still version.

Availability: First seen on Mortal Kombat for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PS Vita, and appears on further installments of the franchise. The still variant is seen on the Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection, a downloadable on the Playstation Network and Xbox Live, and WWE Immortals on iOS and Android. Also appeared on the web series Mortal Kombat Legacy and Injustice: Gods Among Us.
