Background

nWave Pictures is a Belgian animation studio based in Brussels, with an American office in Los Angeles, California. It was founded in 1994 by Ben Stassen and D&D Entertainment Group, with its first traditional short film Encounter in the Third Dimension being released in 1999, although they have made a number of films for motion simulators and rides since 1997 (most prominently for Canadian-based Triotech). In September 2018, Matthieu Zeller's production group MZM acquired a majority stake in the studio. The company didn't use a logo until 2008.

1st Logo (January 30, 2008-August 11, 2010)

Visuals: There is a rectangle on a black background, that contains a darkened-lighted environment with a man wearing 3D glasses. A blue "n" morphs in and flies around the man, who is looking at the "n" with a blue cubed trail. At one point, the man looks at the audience briefly, as well as the glasses flashing blue. The man and the "n" are taken in a black square, as the background fades into a lighted environment. The letters "wa" appear with "ve" unfolding in to create the word "nwave". The word "p i c t u r e s" wipes in with the rectangle changing code effect. The trail freezes, except for the man and the background, as the byline "In Association with Illuminata Pictures" in its generic font fades in.

Variants:

  • On some films, a split-second of the background is shown before the man appearing a split-second later.
  • A print logo exists.
  • A still version of the already-formed logo exists.

Technique: CGI with the live action human.

Audio: A mysterious piano theme combined with some laser/sweeping sounds, ending in an ascending whirr, two low-pitched piano notes, and a percussion outro.

Audio Variants:

  • The print logo and the still version has the closing theme playing over it.
  • At the beginning of A Turtle's Tale: Sammy's Adventures, the music is out of sync.

Availability: It was only seen on two movies Fly Me to the Moon and A Turtle's Tale: Sammy's Adventures.

2nd Logo (August 15, 2012-January 16, 2019)

Visuals: On a black background, a gray cube fades in as it drops into a rectangle, which stretches in, as the color changes to blue-tinted and the cube glows white. The cube explodes, releasing many colorful items floating, as the rectangle expands to a lighted environment. The items fly back to the center as the letters of "nWave" (with the "W" in a different style) zoom out and take positions. The word "pictures" wipes in with a light wipe and shines with the same light wipe.

Variants:

  • If viewed in 3D, the logo is polarized.
  • At the beginning of A Turtle's Tale 2: Sammy's Escape from Paradise (the first movie where this logo debuted), it fades to the opening shot.
  • On The House of Magic, the logo has black bars from above and below.
  • Starting with The Wild Life, the logo is now enhanced, the background has dark blue fog, the cube now has a reflection of the audience wearing 3D glasses, the items are now silver-colored, and the wording "nWave pictures" now has a yellowish tone.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A synth noise, then a synth bass with a hitting sound with some child sounds, ending with a 3-note dramatic fanfare with whooshing sounds.

Availability: Appeared on A Turtle's Tale 2: Sammy's Escape from Paradise and The House of Magic. The Wild Life, and The Son of Bigfoot. Also seen on 3D films produced by the company.

3rd Logo (February 13, 2019-)

Visuals: On a black background with an orange light shining underneath is various silver-colored shapes rising next through a giant curved shape. The shapes then fly to curve and form the "W" of the nWave logo, as a blue sphere appears and turns to a blue cube. The text "n" and "ave" then appear, as a blue streak forms the blue text "pictures".

Variants:

  • Short versions exist on trailers.
  • On Chickenhare and the Hamster of Darkness, the blue sphere and cube are now in a gold color and so does "pictures", the curve part has weirdly been cut out in this version.
  • There is a custom variant used for The Queen's Corgi, where we see a small blue cube bouncing then it stops in the bottom row. Then a corgi comes in and grabs the small blue cube with his mouth then a big blue cube drops in. The puppy then sees the big cube as he lets go of the small cube and bites the cube then the camera rotates away from the cube as the text "nWave" in the same font as the previous logos swipes in with the word "pictures" now in blue and flips in one by one. This version uses the regular 3 note theme from before.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: An airy synth note that turns into a whoosh when the shapes fly, as the sphere appear, sounds of liquid is heard, ending with a softer piano version of the usual 3 note theme from before.

Audio Variant: On The Queen's Corgi, there is squeaky sounds when the cube bounces, sounds of the dog playing, and more sounds including whooshes, followed by the last part of the 2nd logo's soundtrack.

Availability: Can be seen on Bigfoot Family, Chickenhare and the Hamster of Darkness, The Queen's Corgi (First film to use this logo albeit using a variant), In Search of Snow, among others. The normal version debuted on their demo reel from 2019.
