Background

Luxoflux was an Santa Monica, California-based game studio founded by Adrian Stephens and Peter Morawiec in January 1997. While the studio's name was first intended to be ''Alpha Channel'', the name was changed to Luxoflux due to the name already being in use. After collaborating on several titles since their inception, Luxoflux would be bought by Activision in October 2002, and later shut down in 2010 due to layoffs at Activision-Blizzard. Many Luxoflux employees would migrate to Treyarch, another Santa Monica studio owned by Activision, after the closure.

1st Logo (June 4, 1998-November 28, 2000)

Logo: On a black background, we see the oval orange banner with the word Luxoflux written inside in its corporate font rotate vertically to its full view. The text shines afterward.

Variant: On Star Wars Demolition, we see the banner turn to face us, except this time it's rusted and squished. The banner tries to stretch to its normal shape, but bounces back. Three hammer strikes happen and the logo is forced back to its usual shape, and the rust dissipates from the logo. The logo shines once. The PlayStation version has the logo shifted upward with ''Enjoy this game, you will'' underneath. The Dreamcast version has the logo centered.

Captions: On Vigilante 8 and Vigilante 8: 2nd Offense, a caption appears in an italic green font, which changes every time you boot up one of the two games (similar to the opening of Futurama).

FX/SFX: The rotating shield and shining effect. For the PlayStation and Dreamcast versions of the Vigilante 8 games, the logo is pre-rendered CG, but on Nintendo 64, the logo is rendered in-engine and real time.

Music/Sounds: A windchime pass, then a crystallized shining noise. On the N64 versions of both Vigilante 8 games, a brief rock tune is heard. On Star Wars Demolition, we hear mechanical noises as the banner turns, wobbling as it stretches, hammer noises as it is bent into shape, and a whoosh as the rust disappears.

Availability: Seen on Vigilante 8 for PlayStation and Nintendo 64 and its sequel, Vigilante 8: 2nd Offense for the former and latter consoles, as well as Dreamcast. Also seen on Star Wars: Demolition for PlayStation and Dreamcast.

2nd Logo (November 4, 2003-June 3, 2008)

Logo: The orange banner logo appears with more accurate color design and emboss effect. The animation starts with custom sequence, which shows the shining logo at the end.

Variants:

  • On True Crime: Streets of LA, the main character Nick Kang comes and punches the screen with his fist, we briefly see the ring with Luxoflux logo, then the shining logo remains alone.
  • On True Crime: New York City, the main character Marcus Reed blasts the screen with his leg and the logo is carved on his boot.
  • On Shrek 2, a leprechaun appears in a flash of green smoke and presents the logo from his hat.
  • On Kung Fu Panda, the logo just zooms in from the blur and shines.

Music/Sounds: A wheezing sound when the logo shines. On True Crime games, it's preceded by angry roars of the characters. On Shrek 2, we can also hear the sound of logo being extracted from the hat.

3rd Logo (June 23, 2009)
