Background

Lakeshore Entertainment was founded in 1994 by Tom Rosenberg.

1st Logo (January 1996-May 30, 1997)

Logo: On a black background, we see a picture of a white frame containing a picture of a shirtless boy jumping off of a boardwalk into a lake. The picture is sepia-toned and filmed from the back. "LAKESHORE" is displayed above and "ENTERTAINMENT" is displayed below.

FX/SFX: None.

Music/Sounds: Silent, or the film's opening theme.

Availability: Rare. Seen on Bandwagon, 'Til There Was You, Box of Moonlight, and Kids in the Hall: Brain Candy. It is believed this plastered the New World Pictures logo on the original 1997 Anchor Bay DVD of Hellraiser and the Cinema Club region 2 DVD of Creepshow 2. It was also seen on a 2010 IFC airing of Heathers, again, in place of the New World Pictures logo.

Editor's Note: None.

2nd Logo (September 19, 1997-October 21, 2016)

Logo: We start with a full-screen shot of the lake from before (still in sepia-tone), and we pan down a bit, focusing on the boardwalk. The boy in shorts runs into the frame towards the lake (in slow motion) and jumps, only to be frozen in mid-air. The picture zooms out, and the words "LAKESHORE" and "ENTERTAINMENT" fade into their usual spots.

Variants:

  • There is a version in which "INTERNATIONAL" replaces "ENTERTAINMENT". This sometimes plasters or precedes the 1984 New World Pictures logo on films such as Under The Boardwalk.
  • There is a rare black and white closing variant.

FX/SFX: The animation, which appears to be a mix of live-action (the boy running; the sky with clouds, which seem to be time-lapsed footage) and computer effects (the river, with the light reflections on the water). Directed by Miles Flanagan, represented at the time by Klasky-Csupo Commercials.

Music/Sounds: A soothing flute melody, sometimes coupled with a goose honking and water splashing. On some films, the movie's opening theme plays, or it is silent.

Availability: Common. Seen on films from the company such as the Underworld film series, She's the Man, Gone, etc. It first appeared on Going All the Way and last appeared on American Pastoral.

3rd Logo (November 24, 2016-)

Logo: A redone concept of the previous logo. The most notable changes are that the logo is now in muted colors and the background is changed, with two forests meeting at a vantage point and the cloud background showing a sunset at the horizon. The logo also starts with a boy running onto the boardwalk, in even slower animation than the previous logo. This is all in a box that slowly zooms out and reveals the same text as before, in a new font and not in italics.

FX/SFX: Seems to be entirely computer animation. A nicely done update of the previous logo. Done by Supervixen Studios.

Music/Sounds: So far, the opening theme of the movie.

Availability: Rare, as this first debuted on Underworld: Blood Wars, as well as the TV series Fast Layne.
