Background

Joconda Video is a Greek home video company distributing local and foreign films. Nowadays, it focuses on releasing old DVDs (it stopped releasing new ones in the late 2010s) and publishing books aimed at young children.

1st Logo (1985-1999)

Visuals: There is a circle containing Mona Lisa's face zooming in on a black background. A sideways "J" forms on the top left corner of the circle, and letters beside it and below the circle form, showing "Joconda Video". Two asterisks on each side of the circle form while this is happening. Below, "ATHENS FILM" wipes in in a yellow serif font. After that, a warning text starts scrolling.

Variants:

  • In another variant, there's different music, stolen from the first Turner Program Services logo (since that Greek home video company also released the 1983 film Thumbelina, a compilation of episodes from the anime series Oyayubihime, which opens with TPS's logo), and no warning text.
  • Another one, features a narrator, saying: "Η Joconda Video προτείνει: Κινηματογραφικές ταινίες, κλασικά αριστουργήματα σε απίστευτα χαμηλές τιμές. Είναι η μεγάλη προσφορά της Joconda Video, στη νέα γενιά".
  • In another one, the ident stops, after the narrator says: "Η Joconda Video προτείνει:".

Technique: Motion-controlled animation.

Audio: An excerpt of "Rondo Veneziano" by Tiziano.

Availability: Can be found on VHS releases like Bodyguard: Masyong Bagwisa Jr. (1986 Filipino film)

2nd Logo (1999-2004)

Visuals: There is the Joconda Video logo, which features the circle with Mona Lisa's face, right next to a film with the word "JOCONDA", zooming out, in a blue background. After that, there is a blue/red-rounded label, which features the letters "ΜΙΛΑΩ ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΑ" (I'M SPEAKING GREEK) and the flag of Greece and the sentence "Τα παραμύθια είναι...", appears near the logo.

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: An excerpt of the opening theme of My Little Pony: The Movie.

Availability: Found on Greek DVD releases of such titles as The Legend of Mulan.

3rd Logo (2004-2013)

Visuals: In a forest background, some shelves and some DVD cases appears. As the camera zooms in, the cases go back to their shelves, while the sentence "Τα παραμύθια είναι..." zooms in, too. After the camera stops zooming in and all the cases are putted back together, the logo of the company (see 2nd Logo), which is in the top of the shelves, shines from right to left. Then, the logo fades in the whole screen and starts zooming out. After the logo stops fading in, the sentence "χαμογελάει για τα παιδιά"appears.

Variant: At the end of a trailer promoting the company's catalog, the screen transitions via cube effect into the logo, which begins at the second part. It plays at a very slow playback rate and with the music replaced.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A majestic MIDI backing that appears to repeat twice, with a narrator saying "Τα παραμύθια είναι Joconda...", and a woman singing "Joconda, χαμογελάει για τα παιδιά!".

Audio Variants: On the trailer variant, a woman sings the Joconda song in the tune of the My Little Pony theme song.

Availability: Seen on newer releases from Joconda Video such as Kiddo: The Super-Truck. This was also used at the end of the company's trailers from 2004 until 2010.
