Background

In 1980, the Eastern Educational Television Network launched its own syndicated service, which was called the Interregional Program Service. The first program under that name was U.S. Chronicle, but the service scored big when the service launched its national run of Nightly Business Report in 1981. It became American Program Service in 1992, and then American Public Television in 1999.
