Background

Imagitec Design Ltd. was formed in 1987 and it was based in England and it was founded by Martin Hooley. he company was best known for games like The Humans, several renditions of Wheel of Fortune, Tempest 2000 and American Gladiators and Prophecy: Viking Child. The company became Dreamweavers Ltd. before eventually being bought out by Gremlin Interactive in 1996, and it was renamed to Gremlin Interactive Studios. Some employees would later join Runecraft.


1st Logo (1987-1989)

Visuals: On the game's title screen is the text "imagitec" in a cursive font, and below it was the text reading "design ltd." in the same font, within a box.

Technique: A still, sprite-based graphic.

Audio: None, or the opening theme of the game.

Availability: Seen on several early games, like Butcher Hill, the Amstrad CPC, Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum versions of Fiendish Freddy's Big Top O'Fun, the ZX Spectrum version of Duel Master: Blood Valley, the Atari ST version of Flunky, the Amiga/Amstrad CPC/Atari ST/Commodore 64/ZX Spectrum versions of Gemini Wing, the Amiga/Atari ST versions of Netherworld and the Amstrad CPC/ZX Spectrum versions of Rock 'n Roll.

2nd Logo (1990-1992)

Visuals: On a black background, there is a white box, with the text "I" and on the right is a blue curve, which resemble the letter "D". Below it was the text "IMAGITEC" and below is the text "DESIGN LTD.".

Variant: On the SNES version of Wheel of Fortune, the text above reads "AN" and below it reads "DESIGN INC. PRODUCTION".

Technique: A still, sprite-based graphic.

Audio: None, or the opening theme of the game.

Availability: Seen on Prophecy: The Viking Child, Dinolympics, the Amiga/Atari ST/C64 version of Stratego, the Ocean C64 version of Double Dragon and the SNES version of Wheel of Fortune, among others.

3rd Logo (May 1992-1996)

Visuals: On a black background, there is a grey segmented box. Inside it was three rainbow colored lines, and inside it was the same "ID" logo from the previous logo, only in metallic colors, which are green and purple. Below it was the text "IMAGITEC DESIGN INC." in a Copperplate Gothic font.

Variants:

  • Sometimes, the company name is stacked.
  • Sometimes, the segmented box is absent, leaving it fully stacked.
  • On computer games, pieces of the logo fade in altogether.

Technique: A still, sprite-based graphic.

Audio: None.

Availability: Seen on Daemonsgate, The Humans, the SNES/Genesis version of American Gladiators, King's Table: The Legend of Ragnarok, TNN Bass Tournament of Champions and TNN Outdoors Bass Tournament '96, the SNES game of Snow White in Happily Ever After, the Jaguar versions of Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure and Raiden, Bubsy in Fractured Fairy Tales and on the bottom left on the Jaguar game of Evolution: Dino Dudes.

4th Logo (1994)

Visuals: Over a black background, the logo starts with the blue stylized letters "id" rotate from the center. Below it was the text "Imagitec Design Inc." and the text "An" and "Production" is shown above and below the name.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: None.

Availability: Seen on the DOS game of Raiden.

5th Logo (December 15, 1995-1996)

Visuals: Over a black background, the logo starts with the same three colored segmented lines from the 3rd logo. Below it was the text "IMAGITEC DESIGN Inc." in a sans-serif font. Pieces of the "ID" symbol from the 2nd and 3rd logos zooms out and lands inside the lines.

Variant: A still version exists.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: None.

Availability: Seen on Humans III: Evolution Lost in Time and the DOS version of TNN Outdoors Bass Tournament '96. The logo is shown on the bottom right on the title screen of the Atari Jaguar game of I-War.
