Background

Grasshopper Productions is a British production company that produces live-action/animated adaptations of children's stories. It was founded in 1990 by Joy Whitby after she left Yorkshire Television.

1st Logo (24 December 1992-2002)

Visuals: Essentially, it consists of a realistic image of a grasshopper next to the company name. The latter is usually seen within in-credit information.

Variant: On A Small Miracle, the grasshopper is shown within a lime horizontal oval with a black outlne.

Technique: A still, cropped photograph.

Audio: The ending theme of the programme.

Availability: Can be seen on their small output of three releases premiered within 10 years, starting with On Christmas Eve and later appearing on The Mousehole Cat and A Small Miracle. It was also seen on a 90's re-printing of A Pattern of Roses. This logo is intact on DVD and on-demand releases in spite of the next logo plastering this on a few programmes.

2nd Logo (2007-)

Visuals: A drawing of a grasshopper is shown, coloured in green and lime colours. It is seen against a partially cut light green circle with a green outline. Underneath the picture, there's "GRASSHOPPER" in a hand-written serif font.

Variants:

  • On a modern re-edit of Emma and Grandpa, the grasshopper has more detail.
  • On Mouse and Mole at Christmas Time, the text now reads the company's name in Times New Roman.

Technique: Digital ink and paint.

Audio: The ending theme of the programme.

Availability: Seen on re-edited versions of a few vintage programmes produced in their early years such as Stories from East of the Moon and Emma and Grandpa. The only programme that contains and premiered within this logo's lifespan is Mouse and Mole at Christmas Time.
