Background

Grant Naylor Productions is the production company of Red Dwarf creators Rob Grant and Doug Naylor that was founded in 1990. It didn't use a logo until Red Dwarf IV in 1991.

1st Logo (February 14-March 21, 1991; July 2007)

Visuals: After the credits, an explosion pops up, and a red oval ring zooms in with the white words "GRA T AYLOR" sliding onto it. Two red "N"s stretch in to complete the words, making it look like the Red Dwarf logo. The logo zooms out and the text "PRODUCTION FOR BBC NORTH", along with a copyright date appears below.

Variant: On BBC Worldwide's YouTube uploads of Red Dwarf clips, the logo is still on a black background with the 1997 BBC Worldwide logo below.

Technique: 2D animation superimposed on live-action footage.

Audio: An explosion sound.

Availability: Appears on Red Dwarf IV.

2nd Logo (February 20, 1992-March 7, 1997)

Visuals: Superimposed in the credits is the red ring from before spinning in from the center of the screen. The word "GRANT NAYLOR" appears popping up letter by letter. The words "A" and "PRODUCTION FOR (BBC NORTH/CARLTON TELEVISION)" appear popping up above and below the logo, and sometimes a copyright date.

Variant: Sometimes, the logo is still.

Technique: 2D animation.

Audio: The end theme of the show.

Availability: Appears on Red Dwarf installments V-VII and The 10%ers. It also appears on Red Dwarf: The Smeg-Outs.

3rd Logo (February 13, 1998-)

Visuals: Superimposed in the credits is the same Grant Naylor logo from the last time, except the "N"s are now red, making it more similar to the 1st logo. The word "PRODUCTIONS" is shown on the bottom right of the logo.

Variants

  • On the remastered print of the Series 3 episode "Backwards", the logo is mirrored.
  • On the Red Dwarf: Bodysnatcher Collection documentary, the word "A" and "Production" appear above and below the logo, respectively.
  • Sometimes, station info for either BBC (with the 1997 BBC logo) or Dave is shown below the logo.
  • On Red Dwarf "Mobisodes" (reanimated clips from the show made available on mobile phones), the logo zooms out and a "powered by" notice for Pitch (the SMS service the company collaborated with) appears below.
  • Starting in 2016, the logo is on a white background, and the text is black. The logo is also shown with the Baby Cow Productions and UKTV logos.
  • On Red Dwarf: The Promised Land, the logo is revised and the text is also now in a different font.

Technique: A still 2D graphic.

Audio: The ending theme of the show.

Availability: First appeared on Red Dwarf Remastered, then appears on Red Dwarf from the VIII installment onwards. It also appears on the Red Dwarf: The Bodysnatcher Collection DVD, and the aforementioned "Mobisodes".
