Background

GameLab was an independent game studio founded in 2000 and located in New York City. They are best-known for creating the Diner Dash game series, published by PlayFirst. In 2009, the company closed and sold its assets to Arkadium.

1st Logo (2005-2006)


Visuals: On a blue background, there is a ticket with a picture of a 3x3 square on it. The stub on the left side of it rips off, and the rest of the ticket slides off screen to the right. the text "a gameLab game" fades in.

Variant: On Plantasia, there is text on top that says "CREATED BY", and "a" and "game" are omitted.

Technique: 2D animation using the Macromedia Projector engine.

Audio: The sound of paper tearing, followed by an 8-bit rumbling sound, followed by more video game sounds and a 5-note theme.

Availability: Seen on Diner Dash, Egg vs. Chicken, Subway Scramble and Plantasia. In all four cases, it's seen in conjunction with the PlayFirst logo.

2nd Logo (2006-2008)

Visuals: On a yellow background, there is a navy blue square, with many smaller blue, yellow and orange squares inside of it with the word "gamelab" at the bottom of the square. The words "created by" appear on top of the square.

Variant: On Out of Your Mind, the logo is seen on-screen with Curious Pictures.

Technique: None.

Audio: A short series of 8-bit sounds, or sometimes none. Lego Fever uses the opening theme of the game.

Availability: Seen on Lego Fever, Downbeat, Jojo's Fashion Show (and its sequel Jojo's Fashion Show 2: Las Cruces) and Top Chef.
