Background

General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) is a packet oriented mobile data standard on the 2G and 3G cellular communication network's global system for mobile communications (GSM). GPRS was established by European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) in response to the earlier CDPD and i-mode packet-switched cellular technologies. It is now maintained by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP).

Logo (2002-2004)

Visuals: On an underwater background, there is the white text "ɢᴘʀS" with the S being tall (like the S from the Sega Saturn startup) and with the Earth next to it. Both the text and the Earth are casting shadows.

Variants: On some Samsung phones, the underwater background would either be modified with bubbles, or changed to a landscape, the text would be in a different font, and the earth would be different as well.

Technique: A still graphic stored in the phone's ROM.

Audio: Either a xylophone theme, or the "classical" and "cheerful" themes from the Samsung logos.

Availability: Seen on Samsung phones from the 2000s (mostly 2002-2003).
