Background

Flipline Studios is a Flash game company founded in 2004 by Matt Neff and Tony Solary, best known for the Papa Louie games. Initially, they produced a comic titled Freezing Pointe before shifting completely to Flash games.

1st Logo (October 17, 2006-December 6, 2010)

Visuals: Usually consists of the black word "FLIPLINE" on top of "STUDIOS" in white within a gray tube box.

Variants: Depending on the game:

  • Meteor Blastor: On a desaturated green background, several letters fly from the center, forming the top word with the "STUDIOS" text fading and sliding in shortly before "FLIPLINE" is formed.
  • Guppy Guard Express: Same as the previous variant but the background is now gray. Plus, not long after, the logo gets washed away by multiple bubbles.
  • Papa Louie: When Pizzas Attack!: Two onions walk towards the logo from the left and pick up the logo, dashing off.
  • Papa's Pizzeria: A topping-less pizza is dragged from the top with it rapidly spinning shortly after. Several spins later, the logo is revealed in dark red. Shortly after, the pizza gets sliced in half.
  • Rock Garden Deluxe: The logo is against a lime green gradient background with shaded stripes.
  • Steak and Jake: The letters in "FLIPLINE" appear as moving dot outlines before being filled in a non-sequential order. They now form the word "FLIPLINE". This is then followed by the "STUDIOS" text to fade in with the tube box containing a cow texture and lastly, the logo shines.
  • Steak and Jake: Midnight March: The logo, carved onto a pumpkin, falls from the top and then slides to the left.
  • Papa's Burgeria: The logo is on a cooked patty as it falls from the screen and onto the surface of a griddle, grilling for the remainder of the sequence.

Technique: Flash animation.

Audio: Depending on the game:

  • Meteor Blastor and Rock Garden Deluxe: None.
  • Guppy Guard Express: Bubbles are heard when the logo gets washed away.
  • Papa Louie: When Pizzas Attack!: Several walking sounds followed by a boing when the logo gets lifted off the floor.
  • Papa's Pizzeria: A dragging sound when the pizza slides and then a slice when it gets cut in half.
  • Steak and Jake: When the letters appear, popping sounds are heard and then a faint shine as the logo reflects.
  • Steak and Jake: Midnight March: Just a hard pop sound.
  • Papa's Burgeria: Grilling sounds when the patty lands on the griddle.

Availability: Was common before the discontinuation of Flash. Seen on games produced from this period starting with their earliest titles: Meteor Blastor and Guppy Guard Express. The last game to include this logo was Papa's Burgeria. Most of these games can be played through their website or other Flash game sites while others no longer work due to the aforementioned end of life for Flash.

2nd Logo (March 10, 2011-)

Visuals: On a gray background with several slightly bright stripes in the center and a thin, white line in the center, the gray tube from before emerges by stretching along the white line and then resizing vertically, turning from white to gray. It then shifts down, making two vertical white bars to stand up while small, green pixels are seen floating around. Several more bars emerge from the top of the tube with them all forming "FLIPLINE" in white while the text outline "STUDIOS" is briefly revealed by a wiping green light. After "FLIPLINE" is formed, the logo backs away from the screen and then shoots right into it, emitting a bright light burst over it as well as a larger, rotating one underneath and gray and green pixels falling out of the logo. The gray tube is also colored lime green during this light burst. After the logo bounces back, the burst continues to spin while the tube shines and then shifts slightly towards the left and runs off in the opposite direction, lighting up the thin white line and causing the burst to disappear.

Variants:

  • On the Papa Louie games, after the Papa Louie Arcade intro sequence, the background closes from the top and bottom section (similar to a slide door), then proceeding with the rest of the animation. Plus, after the logo leaves the screen, the background opens up and reveals the title screen for the game.
  • An early version of this logo consists of the logo emerging from the white line rather than the gray tube only. Speaking of the latter, it remains gray for the entire sequence.
  • A few games have the stripes replaced by a gray checkerboard.

Technique: Flash animation.

Audio: Starts off with a drum roll (the exact sound heard in the Papa Louie games when a customer is judging his/her food), followed by a short, ascending electronic note that begins with two beats. Two whooshes can also be briefly heard during the drum roll and when the logo slides away from the screen.

Audio Variants:

  • On Cactus McCoy and the Curse of Thorns, it is just the electronic sting and the beats.
  • On Papa's Taco Mia!, the whooshes are omitted.

Availability: Current; debuted on Cactus McCoy and the Curse of Thorns and was seen on all of their games since, both online and on mobile devices. The checkerboard variant can be seen on aforementioned game and Papa's Freezeria.

Legacy: This is a favorite among Papa Louie fans. But the controversies of Flash's retirement may have tainted the logo for some.
