Epson

Background

Seiko Epson Corporation, or simply known as Epson, is a Japanese multinational electronics company headquartered in Suwa, Nagano, Japan. It is one of the world's largest manufacturers of computer printers and information and imaging-related equipment.

1st Logo (1981-mid/late 1980s)

Visuals: Starts with the "EPSON" textmark in blue, over a black background. A red comet passes through behind it. Japanese text is shown below.

Variant: A later version omits the comet, and has the logo glowing.

Technique: Simple animation.

Audio: A 2-note choir singing "Epson!" with a drumbeat.

Availability: Seen on early 1980s commercials by Epson.

2nd Logo (1995-2001)

Visuals: On a white background, a multicolored, rainbow sphere appears, containing the white text "COLOR IMAGING" in a handwritten font. The colors are shown swirling around the sphere. The Epson logo emerges at the bottom of the sphere and zooms into the bottom, while Japanese text fades in above.

Variants:

Warp-speed and shortened variants exist.
In a 1996 commercial, the formed logo is shown above the screen with green Japanese text sliding up and "3/16~4/14" shown below.
On Taiwanese commercials, the animation of the sphere is different, "EPSON" is shown above it, and the Chinese text and URL are shown below.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A synth chime theme with the Japanese announcer saying the slogan and name.

Audio Variant: On the short variants, a voice (depending on the commercial) says "Epson!".

Availability: Seen on many Japanese commercials by Epson during the era.

3rd Logo (1998)

Visuals: Square fragments from the commercial are shown breaking up over a white background and move back as other colored square fragments join in. These fragments form the "EPSON" wordmark as it moves back. The blue logo settles in, with a plain Color Imaging logo and Hangul text above.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: The ending announcer of the commercial, followed by a group of women singing "Epson".

Availability: Seen on a 1998 Korean commercial by the company.

4th Logo (2000s-)

Visuals: The Epson logo is shown on a white background with the slogan "EXCEED YOUR VISION" below.

Variants: There are multiple URL variants used in the 2000s.

Technique: A still digital graphic.

Audio: Just a voice saying "Epson".

Availability: Seen on more recent commercials by the company.
