Background

Epoch Co., Ltd. is a Japanese toy and electronics manufacturer headquartered in Tokyo, Japan which was founded in 1958. The company was one of the video game console pioneers of Japan with the development of the moderately successful TV Game System and Cassette Vision consoles. The company has also produced licensed videogames for Doraemon and their Sylvanian Families franchise of toys.

1st Logo (December 13, 1991-April 28, 1995)

Visuals: A white screen pixelates, containing a green/pink emblem with the text "MANUFACTURERS OF TOYS AND GAMES" and "EPOCH COMPANY LTD" engraved onto the borders. In the center of the emblem is a raccoon holding a metallic rectangle with the "EPOCH" text engraved. The raccoon looks at the screen and blinks. The screen then pixelates to black after some seconds.

Variants:

  • On Chibi Maruko-Chan: Harikiri 365-Nichi no Maki, Doraemon: Nobita to Yousei no Kuni, Conveni Wars Barcode Battler Senki: Super Senshi Shutsugeki Seyo!, and The Amazing Spider-Man: Lethal Foes, the logo is still and fades instead of pixelates.
  • On Hatayama Hacchi no Pro Yakyuu News! Jitsumeiban, two scanline copies of the logo appear rolling from the sides, and then merge.

Technique: Real-time CGI.

Audio: None, or the opening theme.

Availability: Seen on almost SFC/SNES titles by the company, such as Lord Monarch.

2nd Logo (March 17, 1995-June 19, 2010)


Visuals: There is a green square with the white text "EPOCH" within a thin font, normally against a white or black background.

Technique: A still digital graphic.

Audio: None, or the opening theme.

Availability: Normally appears on Japanese-exclusive videogames.
