Background

Electric Dreams Software was a British video game publisher founded in 1985 by Activision and run by Rod Cousens and Paul Cooper. Their catalogue mainly consists of titles for the ZX Spectrum and were successfull during their four year lifespan. They became defunct in 1989.



1st Logo (1985)

Visuals: On the title screen is the company name in a bold, curvy font in a blue-red fill. "SOFTWARE" is seen below the logo.

Technique: A sprite-based graphic.

Audio: The opening theme of the game.

Availability: Only seen on I, of the Mask for ZX Spectrum.

2nd Logo (1985-1987)

Visuals: Like before, it appears on the title screen and consists of the company name in a handwritten cursive font tilted upward.

Trivia: The handwritten style of the logo is similar to the logo for the 1984 film Electric Dreams.

'Variants:

  • Depending on the game, the colour scheme varies:
    • Riddler's Den (ZX Spectrum): cyan.
    • Prodigy (C64): maroon with a white shine on top.
    • Prodigy (ZX Spectrum): cyan staircase shape against a white background.
    • the opening credits to Aliens (US version): yellow.
    • Aliens US Version: magenta; the upper-most pixels are cyan.
    • Aliens: The Computer Game: magenta outline with black fill.
    • Winter Sports (ZX Spectrum): cyan, blocky coloring over the logo.
  • On Riddler's Den, "Presents...." is added below the logo.

Availability: Seen on several ZX Spectrum titles which include Riddler's Den, Winter Sports, Prodigy (also for the C64), and Aliens: The Computer Game.

3rd Logo (1987-1989)

Visuals: It consists of a 3D, upside-down triangle with the company's initials "ED" laying on top of it. Like before, it is set on the title screen of the game and this time, the colour scheme is more consistent, usually involving the colour blue.

Trivia: This logo is almost identical to the logo for the Disney park film/attraction Captain EO.

Variants:

  • Like before, some video games may have the logo in a different color:
    • R-Type (ZX Spectrum): cyan.
    • Super Hang On (ZX Spectrum): red.
    • the title screen to Millennium 2.2 (Amiga): brown triangle, black text, and tan-dodger blue gradient lateral faces.
    • the opening credits to Millennium 2.2 (Amiga): the bottom-most pixels of the lateral faces are cyan.
  • On Super Sprint for ZX Spectrum, the logo is inside a gray tube, the company's name with "ELECTRIC DREAMS" over "SOFTWARE" and two lines over and underneath it is seen below the logo, and "LICENSED TWO" is placed above the box.
