Background

The Korea Public Service Advertisement Council (공익광고협의회) is an organization operating under the Korea Broadcast Advertising Corporation (KOBACO), the public media representative of South Korea.

1st Tag (1981-2007)

Visuals: Somewhere on the screen, a blue, rounded rectangular logo containing three white lines which form a curved "T" shape, with a triangle at the center and the top of the rectangle being in white, appears with the Hangul text "공익광고협의회" next to it.

Variants:

  • The logo may appear by fading in.
  • Some PSAs feature the logo in white.
  • On most 20th century PSAs, the logo is usually placed at the bottom of the screen, near the center or at the bottom-right corner. Several 21th century PSAs have the logo placed that way.
  • On most 21th century PSAs, the logo is placed at the center of the screen, mostly on a white background, or on a shot from the advertisement.
  • On several PSAs, mostly from the 1990s period, the message of the PSA in Korean is shown at the center, either on a white or black background, with the logo placed at the bottom.

Technique: Fading effects, or none.

Audio:

  • 1981-1984, 1998-2004: The closing of the advertisement.
  • 1984-1998: A violin crescendo, leading to two notes from a string orchestra.
  • 2004-2007: A 4-note bell theme, with the last note backed by a string orchestra.

Audio Variant: Some PSAs featuring either the 1984 or 2004 themes have them in a different pitch.

Availability: Seen on most public service advertisements from the organization during the period. [Examples?]

Final Note

Since 2007, newer public advertisements use the KOBACO tag with the Public Service Advertisement Council's name shown next to the company name.
